Do you guys ever change the names of the playable characters? Particularly for games where they have established characters and not avatars like FF1. Apart from panda's iconic Cloud JAY.

I very rarely do it because it confuses me. But I remember naming Steiner both Rusty and Adelbert because it was funny for him to call himself Adelbert Adelbert, and Amarant would call himself the Flaming Flaming.
when i was younger i did. cecil was renamed to goku when i played ff4 for the first time. i would usually pick random anime names. nowadays, with one exception just the one time while plying ffx on the switch a while back, i don't rename a character if they already have a name.

Yeah im just too bad at naming.... Its not worth it really.

How ever games that have characters with no names like FF1 and OG FF3 well you gotta name the dudes (crystals be like: send dudes)

For FF1 i named the party

James (warrior)
Carl (thief)
Leo (black mage)
Zeno (white mage)

For FF3 first i thought the protaganist is a girl so I named the first warrior of light jill and 3rd warrior of light cheryl turns out all are guys , luckily i moved on to a newer phone so with this knowledge in mind i renamed the 2 guys to:

Adrian (red mage)
Martin (white mage)
Jason (warrior)
Samuro (monk)

I like naming all the main characters Cloud as a joke. And then when I replay VII I'll name Cloud something like Squall or Tidus.

Absolutely diabolical.

So FF3 is basically FF1 but Warriors of light arent socially inept and actually know how to speak.

Also you can duel wield which is featured in the game cover art thats what i call 10/10 marketing.

Square wanted you to play around with the toad/mini spells as they are a must use in some cases , charcters look WAY WAY too funny when mini it reminds me of FF5 toad where toaded charcters do the most funny of dances EVER it cracked me up everytime i saw it.

Dual wielding white mages are real...

Which version are you playing? I might check it out myself.

The most rusty version ever with music that sounds like its made using a washing machine the original NES release search Final Fantasy iii here you will find it

More cute 25th Anniversary art for FF9.
Where is @Strategist going?

Yeah black mage looks cool

But red mage got the best swag
You are right!
I play final fantasy 1 on gba and oh my God red mage is crazy powerful.
Use very good weapons and Armor with all good skill you can get for other 2!
In fact in a lot of game get a red mage means end of game!

I didn't try red mage in FF1 but i did in 3 and 5 and damn the 5 red mage feels nerfed compared to the one in 3

Weakness of red mage is supposed to be he is incapable of learning high level magic so he is mostly very strong early/mid game and quite weak late game.

In fact red mage get nerfed because of gba and other version because some classes were super powerful with no weakness like this guy!

Yeah i did hear red mage was nerfed in later FF1 releases at the same time thief was buffed which is great.

Who is this guy? And what game you kill dragons like crazy?

This guy is a assassin. A special class in final fantasy tactics. In gba version which called "final fantasy tactics advance" you can have a side skills.
This guy can hide from some monsters and all of human enemies..... all of the skill mean insta kill!
This guy and thief with "Skill steal" was most dangerous enemies.
In fact assassin have a nice state and a lot of speed. They use bows and katanas like snipers and hunters, and Ninjas.
in fact sometime they were even powerful enough to beat a boss.

Damn when did ninjas become this OP? I played tactics the first one and its a good game not the best FF has to offer but a well rounded game and a fun twist on normal FF formula with an alright story.

Peak OP

That is super cool. Studio Ghibli style Vivi. Where did you get that? I think I got myself a new avatar.
It was on the Final Fantasy facebook, they posted a few 25th anniversary things for FF9 and that drawing was one of them. :)

I am thinking of playing FFVI

I have heard that the gba version is the best compared to the PS1 version, but I still wanted to hear from you guys.

GBA version has terrible soundfont, script is more faithful to Japanese release, and graphics look a little too bright. On the other hand there's extra content compared to other versions like 2 bonus dungeons and some bosses.
Meanwhile PS1 version has terrible load times and some bugs (from what I've heard).
SNES version imo is the superior one as it has none of these issues aside from having different english script, but I think any port will provide great experience

Yeah, I'd just go with the SNES version instead of the GBA or PSX ones. Just better performance overall. I can't speak on the Pixel Remaster version that came out more recently, but I'd definitely stay away from the mobile version.

I guess I have to go for the SNES too, the GBA version has extra content which kinda makes me want play it. But I'm only going for the story so the SNES is fine. I never really heard about mobile one, what's so bad about it?

Best way to play FFVI is the GBA version with the Color and Sound Restoration patches applied, trust me. I'm probably going to get flamed to hell for this, but nostalgia aside the US localization completely butchered the script. If you care even a little bit about the story, please don't play the SNES version. The best thing would be if someone modded the GBA dialogues into the SNES version, should be completely possible AFAIK. Pretty weird nobody did it yet. I may try doing it myself after I get more programming experience, it'll take quite a long while though so don't count on me lol. Even with the patches applied though the GBA version's sound still isn't up there with the SNES version, and you're also losing quite a bit of viewing space in the GBA version because it's cropped to fit the GBA aspect ratio. At least though the dialogues are an actual translation, and not a typical 90s US butcherization localization, so it's completely worth it imho. It's unacceptable that such a gem of a game still doesn't have a decent way of playing it in English after more than 30 years.
