Final Fantasy Megathread

What's you guys go-to FF title? For me it's FFV, I can replay that a thousand times and never grow bored by it. I

think it has the best class system in the entire series, probably my favorite soundtrack, characters, setting, final boss...It's truly a masterpiece.

XII, Tactics or VII-Remake. These are the only ones I've replayed.

FFVI is my favourite.

FFVIII would be a close second, but it's slightly spoiled by the enemies leveling-up as you do (which makes grinding for exp feel a bit like a punishment, rather than a reward). And also the "draw" system was a bit of a drag.
But In terms of aesthetics, OST and story it's definitely still way up there.

I've been downloading PS-One games since last night. Trying to get all the classics. :) Playing soon!
If you haven't yet, I can't recommend FF5 enough. The story isn't super grandiose, but the cast is wonderful and the job system gives a lot of freedom of expression.

Has anyone here played the latest Chocobo Dungeon game? Is that good? I'd like it to be good, but the recent other Chocobo games (like that F2P cart racing one) haven't been very inspiring.

ALSO: Chocobo Dungeon 1 has one of my favourite game OSTs ever. It's perfectly suited to a dungeon-crawler – just listen to some of these hot tracks and try to pretend you're not wandering through a 32-bit cave, desperately hoping for another food pickup so you don't lose your +21 Claw to starvation. 🐤

I've played FF1-FF13 and plenty of other Square franchises. They all have their unique special attributes. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be FFIX.

Haven't played FF in a while, I'm fairly inexperienced with the franchise as I've only beaten 1, 4, 6, and 7. About to start 8 today though, anything I should look out for? You know, general gameplay tips, missable secrets or side quests, that sort of thing.

8's a little frustrating if you hate missing things, there's a ton you can do right at the beginning that's all unintuitive. The card game, doing the SeeD test perfectly, grinding for magic but NOT for exp, because everything levels with you...which is fine, except some drops are tied to lower level monsters. If that's the kind of thing that bugs you, play it with a guide.

That being said, GF summons are free and massive damage spells, that also protect your health while they're casting. You have a huge incentive to rely on them, except you have to watch the same cutscenes a billion times.

....with that being said, it's still probably my favorite game in the series? It hit me with a moody teen protagonist trying to woo a girl with his internal monologue back when that hit way too close to home. I could never love it the same way again, I've changed and it hasn't, but it's tangled around a part of my life like vines.

The game isn't very difficult as soon as you get the GFs leveled up and unlock the top tier abilities. Refine abilities are generally the most powerful, Card Mod from Quetzalcoatl in particular. It allows you to get a bunch of hard to find items earlier than usual. Triple Triad is your friend, play it every chance you get and collect as many cards as you can, then turn them into items using Card Mod. Those items can be further refined into other items or spells through other GF Mod abilities.

The game raises enemies to your average level, so don't go out of your way to get levels, just train to learn the stuff you want.

So I'm playing FF Type-0 and I wanted a place to talk about my experience with the game. I'm also planning to play FF7 or FF10 next, Type-0 is a pretty good game. I didn't expected to find a more mature plot on a Final Fantasy game. I hope there's more games like it.

I find ff Type-0 a very interesting one, but i enjoy a lot more the older games like 8, 9 or 6.

One of the endings of Type-0 hit me very strongly i must say.
