IMHO totally useless mod. FFIV is perfect as it is... and like Stooky mentioned, just play FFV or any other of the FF which has got a job system and done

I can't seem to get into FFIV after beating it once, no matter what mod I play lmao. And never been a big fan of V either so still gotta wait for that glow

You are missing the whole point of modding it's not about "well if you want x just play y" it's about how much you can alter the game or what stuff you can bring to it , twist it jiggle it however you like.

Maybe some want to play as white mage cecil? Or monk Rosa? It's about the possibilities and more...

yeah, as good as the game is on its own; there are some weird flaws to it. cecil gets white magic, but excluding the 3d versions, he learns 6 spells and only 2 are good. cura and esuna. he gets more in the 3d version like protect, shell and raise. always seemed either kind of pointless or an half baked idea for him to get magic but have barely any viable spells.
i played and beat the psx version a few years ago and i checked out a weapon glitch that you can do where you can give a character a weapon that they can't normally wield; so i got both rydia and rosa a flame sword, lance and both a shield. they had higher attack stats, so they could deal some damage when it wasn't necessary to use spells or arrows.
i also think rydia would look pretty cool being shown wielding a sword and shield; so i might add that to my list of stuff to draw,

Yup that's what mods are for

Respect the art, period. The game is perfect as it is, unnecesary mods like this ruin the game. Or maybe im too elitist.

Yes I'm with you i love Final Fantasy 4 the way it is with its linear gameplay and unique commands for each character we may not like to play such mods but others love to go through the epic story of FF4 using FF5 job system and who are we to prevent them? When it comes to mods you need to open your mind a bit in a positive way that is , games like gta san andreas are made even better with mods like smarter AI.

Yeah there are some really good mods out there. I just have a special place for FFIV lol

i got the game set up and played up to rydia joining for the first time.
it is a bit of a strange game to experience.
only 5 characters; so far, everyone starts at level 1.
4 equip slots. the 5th one is the job slot. equipment has to be removed to change jobs. [i think you can also play without a job, will check that out later]
cecil is purple as a dark knight. kind of cool.
new abilities. cecil has rage which casts doom and berserks him. kain has lance so he can heal himself by damaging the enemy.
got a couple of screenshots. used a new emulator but its screenshots are insanely small. the one it took was 5 kb in size.

You might like the mod Daughter of Darkness and Light hosted here if that's the case.

played some more of the hack. i'm at the antlion's den now.
found an interesting bug. [i think it's a bug; and no, i don't want it taken out; it will be very helpful to have it] if you are dashing out of a town or dungeon, you retain that speed in the overworld. you can zoom super fast to your next destination, and it doesn't go away if you get into a battle.
regular party members don't join up with you; they give you their job instead. and the main 5 characters don't leave your party after joining; so the octopus boss went down rather faster than normal from this. it'll be interesting to see if later bosses are adjusted for this.
some of the dungeons and towns have minor adjustments to them. the bridge in the ending part of the waterfall cave has been moved down; hidden paths are visible. the throne room in castle damcyan has a throne and a doorway off to its side. you can't go through, but it does make the place seem bigger than the original.
got a couple of more screenshots:

kain has a rather nice hp stat.

rydia grew up rather fast between kaipo and the kingdom of damcyan trip. by a good 60 years it looks like. i guess tellah really was her mentor for the short time that he was with the team. i guess the wiki was right about that.

If there's interest, I'll bring this one here. My favorite FF4 hack is probably one where Cecil remains a Dark Knight, among other changes. The name escapes me at the moment.

that does sound interesting.

Man that's a crazy overhaul! Projects like these just blow me away and keep me lurking around romhacking forums lol. I can't imagine what it takes to do something like this.

Here's hoping the next big FFIV hack takes these classes and puts the combat on a grid. Just turn it into FF Tactics. Add a parry system too - screw it.

I'm stuck at Kainazzo, who keeps healing himself when he's almost finished. It's happened the past 3 tries in a row, I may have to redo my party's job class setup.

Other than that, so far it has been extremely playable 👌

A lot of these hacks tend to switch things up difficulty wise. Caignazzo is often seen as a pushover vanilla so tripping players up with him is a common stratagem.

what's your party set up?
