The introduction of the sorceress was pure art on square side with the choir and the people going crazy unforgettable moment in my gaming history makes the villain feel intimidating and the whole thing is a masterpiece to sum up disc 1.

That music along with the dancers felt like confronting something of demonic power and essence.

I looked at the cover art of FF8 seeing its quite different from the usual FF cover art I seen up until that point I go "huh looks like some sort of saga to me" with the eye catching lighting and coloring of the cover art I been playing 2D final fantasy for straight 2 months and more now waiting eagerly to actually get into the real deal being the 3d games since I started with FF7 and went backwards so 8 was a breath of fresh air.

Its 4 discs I say to myself "well this is gonna take me a month to beat" booting it up I watch the intro seeing names I became more familiar with with few shots of different characters and things from the game I can't tell anything but what looks like a gun a dude driving a car and that's pretty much it.

Greeted with still simple menus but now with a more impressive background I press new game and the proper intro plays I know one thing at that point its a Final Fantasy title it must be great well the intro shows for the first time blood in a Final Fantasy game I think the 2 were trying to kill each other resulting in the iconic injury you will be familiar with the whole time you are playing as squall.

The first character you see is quistis "must be some sort of teacher" I say and well she is your teacher im impressed by the lighting the lively halls which tons of students are walking in after those 2D games anything 3D was gonna got the WOW treatment from me.

Pumps into selphie of course I show her the place , get to quistis and start moving wait is she moving on her own? No she is actually right behind me! AHAHAHA I go FINALLY no longer do characters merge into you but instead follow you around and no longer do everyone look like midgets.

We already in the overworld? Last time I played a 3d FF I spent 8 hours before heading to the overworld searching for the cave and trying to remember all the tutorials you get at the start I forget most of it as always lol , gets into the first battle and I can already tell square wanting even better cinematic looking battles my god finally enemies that move and guess what? They actually have sounds ? Wait they also have death animations? Instead of vanishing into the air? That's REAL technological advances im caught off guard by the battle preparation animation never seen that before especially with quistis whip smack and its lovely sound alright I fight blue bees quistis tells me to press R1 I press L1 instead showing me a menu of enemies to pick who to attack she is teaching me to choose enemies well in reality she was teaching me how to use a gunblade properly why does it matter? Up until disc 4 I didn't know you could press R1 to press the trigger on the gunblade to deal more damage in fact I didn't realize more quantity of a spell made junction stronger you can say I didn't figure out 50% of the gameplay until disc 4.

Speaking of junction I was constantly told of it when going through the tutorials , "what the heck is junction?" Im wondering the whole time when I get to actually junction I'm like "WOW magic has more effect on the game than before? Amazing!" "Where is my money? Oh I have 4000 gil hmmm lets see wait how to get money? No monsters dropped money so far" I look for the cave which clearly lies east of the garden for some reason I head to balamb gets to see everything there "how to buy armor?" And I meet the queen of card game after a lengthy discussion with her im like "impressive work square you made your own card game with dynamics too?" Time to find the cave I find it easily after heading back to the garden and going east and well I choose 30 minutes I think this is going to be a tough trail aaaaand HEY its the bomb enemy! I have seen many iterations of this thing and I love how square keeps some enemies in all games you see them evolve along with the game early on melee is bad so I cast quetzqoctl with quistis I take shiva for being able to junction vitality and spirit which would be important later on for now I take it just cuz , going through the fire cave I reach ifrit maaaan its been since FF4 since I last saw my guy ifirt he grown so big and now sports a different color of skin and a large beard too I'm surprised by him being our first boss casting shiva he reacts to it too! What a cool dude when you beat him he is like "alright alright I will follow you" imagine hearing in that in a deep monstrous voice XD Final Fantasy made me assign to each character a certain voice based on their personality and looks of course the main character is always voiced by me.

Getting ifrit I take a look at his junctions "strength focus I see heh makes sense" so how do I gain money ? Still no clue I get back and save the game in my room after changing clothes and turn off FF8 that was my first day playing this game what would follow would be some of the best games I played.

Introduced to zell through a cool cutscene where he does some jumping move followed by getting assigned under seifer im like "what? The guy that injured me tf?" After that conversation in the car and naval transport I say "no" to seifer orders my pride doesn't let me take orders from an asshole like that well you have to do it anyway given an epic cutscene showing the full on intervention of the garden very cool work square you can see they wanted great cutscenes and consistent ones too after the inconsistent ones of 7 one time they are using battle models other time the midget overworld models nope 8 has none of that smooth and great looking 99 made cutscenes rivaling the masters of games cinematic makers blizzard themselves.

From the quirky character of selphie who the game tries to get you to like as your romantic interest in the first part of the game to zell explosive character to quistis wise and cool headed demeanor all further amplified by the expressive animations of the 3D graphics allowed 8 to occupy a quadruple space in my heart.

Music wise Final Fantasy is top tier in music I expect nothing less than great work by the OG composer ueamtsu however you pronounce his name , well no music usually gets me liking it on first try I have to hear it few times to actually start liking it FF8 soundtrack is up there with 7 the overworld music as ambient as it sounds compared to terra theme is actually a pretty good characterization of squall I think the music feels like someone dragged you along on a journey you weren't exactly happy to get into but secretly you enjoy the company of your friends while not expressing that , one reason video game music keeps me coming back is the memories associated with it and the story the tunes tell without requiring lyrics well but that doesn't stop mr uametsu goddamn I can't write his name from making bangers with lyrics like eyes on me or one winged angel.

After all that praising you may ask "well where do you exactly rate FF8 on your top games?" I say 8 ranks below 6 taking up 7th place in my top 10 games.

Yeah I like to dive in detail into stuff surface level description while has its uses is just not satisfying enough for me so I like to recite my experience or some of it with the game.

I just thought of this one. it's Final fantasy-ish, and a rap, but dedicated to the wonderful people I've met (and those I haven't on this forum).....quality not guaranteed

I feel watched like a house cartoon
Like Eureka, who was on around noon
But I'm secretly a chillin' tactician villain'
Luring in forums, checking out what's ill
I see the recipe: write, comment, copy, fill
With my friends at forum RGT-
My Light-Warrior homies, and me.
Unsung hero's all of truth and love
Knights, Monks, or others that cast wrath from above
As for myself, my ATB gauge fills slow
makes enemies mistake me as weak, you know
But I'm a double casting Shock-Wave pulsater
But I'm a mob and final boss eliminator
Baddies see me coming, and drop their rares
Pre-Emptive strikes? Nah, they don't dare.
Cause I coat my blade with the evilest spells
Drain, Death, and Break- pure hell
But it ends up a Selphie un-bugged calamity
Getting EXP spoils share, minimally
No one wanted to travel with a broken sneaker
Like a FF1 Thief, but weaker.
When it came down to decide on party
I received no invite, no PHS copy
A weapon or armor upgrade, hardly.
My development had been all been but rushed
Full of bad glitches, mistakes and bugs.
But I realize people like a spoony crooner
Who will level up sooner
With Bard Skills that I feel are second class
But people here say it does pass
