Final Fantasy 7 Remake or Original Which is better for the first time experiencing the game ?

I've always said that if someone wants to start in a saga in the right way, they have to start with one of the first ones and only play the remakes after having played the original.
This is the only way to really know how the IP evolved and how much better or worse it got.

If you don't want to be so purist you can use one of the many mods of the original VII that make it more enjoyable to modern eyes.

The original is mandatory for any serious gamer in my opinion. The remake is optional.

I played some of the remake, and it's kind of like fan fiction. It's not true to the original in any way, shape, or form. It doesn't even play like it. That's not to say that it's not a good game, but it's not the true FF 7 experience.

Again, just my opinion

Apparently the remake is a completely different game regarding gameplay and it derails from the original's plot in a certain point, and it also requires prior knowledge of the ffvii sub series

yep. it is for all intents and purposes, a different game with a skin mod pack applied to it.
it would have worked better if it started off with parts of the original game being shown and interact to the player, before a twist happens showing cloud having a daydream or something while riding onto of the train in the opening and the games events start to differ because cloud has vague ideas of what's going to happen, but at the end of the first part, sephiroth shows up and tells cloud that he can't change history and destiny or something along those lines and some of the original events still happen with the most minor if any changes occurring.
it's been a thing for the past couple of decades for game companies to ditch traditional turn based gameplay to focus on more cinematic gameplay; which sometimes goes so overboard that they might as well made a movie instead of a game.
