An extensive labor of love hack of Final Fantasy 6, nearly 15 years in the making. It is the summation of Piggy-Chan!'s personal vision for the game, as well as bugfixes. As expected, palette changes are applied to create a more vivid atmosphere.

OK, that's intriguing enough that I'll continue with this over ASC. I assume Relm is bugfixed in this hack? The readme seems a little vague upfront about characters and, at the same time, I don't want to spoil myself.

Kinda wish I hadn't learned about ASC being natural magic, though, because now I'm at a crossroads on which one to play. I really dislike being able to make characters clones in games like FF6 and 7, so ASC seems like the obvious choice, but something about HELE seems nice too... I guess it depends if the increased difficulty will encourage more diverse strategies just organically.
Yep. The difficulty isnt just increased; unlike ASC and BNW, HEale forces you to think more critically, leaning more on "Ah-HAH!" moments. I firmly believe the mod author made special changes on purpose to not just make it difficult, but force players to apply more "common sense", especially during boss fights

ASC has difficulty control in the form of add on patches which is nice.

So... how is this compared to Brave New World?
Brave New World is dynamic in terms of character builds and Esper limits. Both that and HIEL mod have acceptable difficulty, at least for me.
BNW is actually slightly better, as it gives more changes than the latter mod. HIEL, though fun, keeps a lot of the base game stuff intact (eg. esper bonus on level up).

Hm... ASC seems like it changes too much for my liking (new music and Leo) but natural magic built in is very tempting.
It was built on top of the Leo hack so the feature carried over. I don't personally mind it it, as I always thought the original fate the plot had for the character was questionable.

To clarify, most characters cannot use magic or Espers at all in ASC, and I consider that a strength, as their natural abilities were improved and brought to the forefront.

Personally, the fact ASC changes so much is what makes me like it; I never thought vanilla FF6 had any semblance of balance or well meshed mechanics.

Edit: HEaLE is probably the closest there'll be to a well put together, lovingly crafted vanilla plus plus experience, so if you'd rather have that, you're sure to find it here.

More than anything, I like how BNW forces you to specialize espers. Gau and Cyan rebalance is nice, too. I'll fully admit trash mob random encounters take too much effort, though. Not hard, just time consuming.

I'm willing to check out this hack, maybe I'll play a few hours and see how it feels.
HEaLE (this hack) doesn't have Esper specialization (a good idea in principle), but ASC outright is balanced around only Terra, Celes, Relm and Gogo being able to use them in the first place, which I feel is how it should have always been.

My problem with BNW is the puerile humor inserts that ruin the script and the fact it doesn't truly address the problems of the game fully.

So... how is this compared to Brave New World?
My understanding is that it is quite a bit more vanilla, but with many improvement tweaks added in. My FF6 hack of choice is A Soldier's Contingency, personally, but this would be a close second. I don't like BNW and don't understand why people hold it in high esteem.

Good stuff. I'm still doodling on photoshop and inkscape so i'm no where near that level of talent lol.
The image is a composite, I didn't draw Celes there, to be clear. It's one of Yoshitaka Amano's many drawings of the character. I felt it fit perfectly for my purposes.

I'm glad you like it. I iterated on it quite a bit and wasn't sure it was good enough, but in the end I think it's good. I wanted to emphasize Celes since she's my favorite female lead in the game.

I just saw the Box-art! That's awesome. Needed something for my library in OpenEmu

FF3 is on the NES. FF3 on SNES is a misnomer and a relic of the past. Yes, it does use the U.S version as a base, that doesn't mean the numbering is correct.

To be clear, people can call it what they want, you'll never see me, personally, misnumber the games.
So, does it mean that FF3 for SNES isn't a simple port or remake of FF3 for NES and really is FF6? :'d?

I believe you, x'd/. But isn't the hack based on FF3? :v??
