A very deep overhaul and difficulty balancing hack of Final Fantasy 6.
Among other things, it is a natural magic hack, meaning only characters that naturally learn magic have access to it, leading to other characters' roles being emphasized further. Supplementary patches (included) allow for deep customizability of many aspects.

This looks really cool! I'm gonna give this a go, but I like both of the visual flavors enough that I can't decide which to start with. Probably A! I'm a sucker for alternate costumes and things like that in games, so I see it as a new way to play an old favorite. Truly don't understand the hate.

That said, if I love this version and decide I want to replay it over the original, it'd be a nice option to have the original sprites as an option. So count me as another vote for that, but not because I'm critical of the work you've already put into this.
Greetings, author of ASC here. I just now found out about this place. I'm glad people are playing the hack! I have considered adding vanilla sprites to the hack just as an optional patch, although the person in here who called the character sprites "hideous" is the first such comment I've seen in the years the hack has been out. So far I've heard just the opposite from dozens of players. I'm curious, did you play the hack, or just look at those reduced quality screenshots?

Anyway, if you want something, please ask politely and in a constructive manner. I am very receptive to requests, which is why this hack has dozens of optional patches in the first place. I've spent countless hours trying to appease the fans, but comments like this certainly give me a complete lack of motivation to do so (I sure hope that "William_Evans" is not the same person as "Super_Meatroid", especially considering these are the only people to date to request vanilla sprites).

Anyway, thanks to the rest of you for enjoying the hack!

I wonder if I can still use my save file from older versions. I stumbled upon a bug that soft-locks the game at the start of the Figaro twins flashback after taking back their castle in the World of Ruin.

Then again, I can just restart from the beginning. Forgot to record my fights with the bosses.
Depends on which version you were on.

It's a problem the west created, at the time, because they didn't bother originally localizing FF2 and FF3 on the NES, which created a gap they didn't want to explain.

So FF4 (SNES) became known as FF2 in the west (ugh) and 6 became 3; 5 was skipped entirely until the PS1 re-releases and beyond, I believe.
But in RGT you have all the nihonese releases with the correct names and translated to english, right? Right? :'d?

thats correct, i even think ff5 was the first fan translated ff rom i found, before playing the missing nes ones

So, the cardinal names' problemo is relative to Nihon and U.S. official releases, lol, x'd/.

Is there any version of this that doesn't mess up the character sprites? Neither flavor looks good. I'd love to play this hack, but with the original character sprites.
I intend to get in touch with the author to ask about this. An untouched "Flavor C" would be a good call, even though I like both styles.

Unfortunately no, but you'll probably just get used to them and kind of hold your breath because the game itself is better in a lot of ways.
