Introduction
This is a labor of love and a personal-challenge project with absolutely no intention of making any profit whatsoever off of this derivative work from the copyrighted source material. All original audio and image files used in this project were found from various sources on the Internet. I have made some very minor adjustments/improvements to some of these files as needed. Additional image files (such as new character sprites) have been created by me to accommodate additional features/content not present in the original game.

This is not a ROM hack. I have actually recreated the entire game from the ground up using Unity. All of the code for this version of the game was written by me.

Final Fantasy Renaissance (FFR) is intended as a tribute to the original Final Fantasy game released by Square on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 (US version). There are currently two distinct game modes in FFR. “Classic Mode” and “Renaissance Mode”.

Classic Mode is, first and foremost, intended as a faithful recreation of the original Final Fantasy game…but…with all known bugs fixed (such as spells that never worked before or NPC characters who are invisible or can move through walls).

Renaissance Mode is, essentially, the same core game as Classic Mode, but with a number of new job classes available to choose from, as well as new game mechanics added (such as job-specific abilities usable inside and outside of combat). The new job classes I’ve added are all based on job classes introduced in later games in the Final Fantasy series (such as Evoker, Lancer, Blue Mage, and many more…).

Game Features
  • Classic Mode - A faithful recreation of FF1 with all of the known bugs now fixed
  • Renaissance Mode - New job classes added along with their own job class upgrades. Old and new job classes get their own unique passive and active abilities that they can use (such as the Thief being able to find hidden items all across the game)
  • New job classes: Archer, Spellblade, Lancer, Dark Knight, Blue Mage, Time Mage, Evoker, Bard, Green Mage, Dancer, Geomancer and Trainer
  • New and old job classes have gotten buffed in some fashion. This also includes the job class upgrades
  • New spells to use mostly for the new job classes
  • Bonus job class exclusive quests
  • Can use less than four members in a party at the party creation screen
  • New weapons to use
  • New enemies to battle against
  • One button party leader swap
  • Talking to certain NPCs as different job classes/party members allows you to learn a new skill from that NPC
  • Controller support
  • Sprint button that makes you run faster (Thief can go the fastest if used as a leader)
  • Game options for being able to fine tune your experience
  • Plenty of achievements to earn
  • And more!
