Are there games where you couldn't beat the final boss and finally ended up just moving on to another game?

For me, these three games' final bosses humbled me

Don't remember a specific game but often when the game is boring but then the final boss is too boring I just stop playing the game and if I care I watch how the game ends on Youtube. But gotta say I can also give up playing the game even in the first boss just because the game is that boring.

If I've taken all the time it takes to get to the final boss of a game, I will be beating that boss. ::flexing

The only exception to this rule, that I can think of, is the final boss of House of the Dead 4, and that's simply because we ran out of money.

Captain Silver from Master System. But I never stopped trying until I did. Leaving a game forever because final boss can't be beaten is kind of awkward :S

Confession: after ten attempts, I "ragequit" Devil Survivor (Nintendo DS, the first version) because of the last boss on Atsuro's route (if my memory is right) 😔

Shinobi PS2... I worked all my way to the final boss, worked out how to beat him but I just got so burned out after a few hours of trying, I just walked away.

The final boss in Cathedral, the game already felt cheap in difficulty, but the final boss has a dash-spam attack that made me uninstall and never look back

FF8 and its seriously imposible, once i got past its third phase the big beast would start spinning his head around and then freeze softlocking my game.
i tried everything from several honest tries, to cleaning the cd or opening move the disc a bit and then close it back on, everything.
it was truly imposible

I had the OG Xbox version of Crash Twinsanity, and it wasn't a super hard final boss, but I had some sort of glitch with Nina Cortex where her final grapple move wouldn't put you in the right position you needed to be in to actually damage the boss any further.

The issue never went away no matter how many times I tried to reload and repeat the earlier stages of the boss. To this day I've never technically finished the game.

Lucifer
in Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance. The game just beat me down and beat me down up until that point and I just got so sick of it that I gave up, especially since it took
Tao
away so I had no primary healer and would have to craft a new one after all of the item investment.

And I'm glad I just looked up the ending because I would've been incredibly mad if I'd sat to grind for several more hours just for that. I also felt like I just got railroaded. If I had the choice I would've
destroyed the throne instead

Omega Rugal on KOF98
That boss is hell even in Level 1 and also that it doesn't stop spamming powers and if you try to do an air attack it always counters you with the Genocide Cutter that lowers a lot of life or with the Grip that crashes you into the wall that also takes a lot of life, and it doesn't matter if you play in the original '98 or the UM but for some reason in the Dreamcast version (DM1999) it's fair at least.

Three come to mind:

The last boss of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker for the DS. After grinding endlessly just to get there, the boss was such a huge difficultly spike that it required leveling up to max level just to win. As far as I recall (it's been a long time since I played that game), it's one of those games where leveling up your monsters is disgustingly long, because the game expects you to constantly trade your monsters up for better monsters (a lot like the SMT games--especially Persona), and nothing was anywhere near the last boss's level, which made the grind that much more painful. I threw my hands up and said, "Forget it" upon realizing the commitment.

Giygas got me the first time I played through Earthbound. I had no idea I had to use THAT command to win. It's almost completely worthless the entire game. I spent 30-40 minutes just fighting Giygas without making any progress. I finally accepted that beating him was too much of an effort if 30-40 minutes of fighting wasn't enough, then I put the game down. Some time later, I stumbled onto the solution, went out and rebought the game and finally saw the end credits roll. Needless to say, I was pretty irked to realize it was something so simple.

Not necessarily the last boss, but SMT: Strange Journey got me to surrender just by being (or feeling) incredibly long. I got to what I thought was the last dungeon, grinded my butt off to be strong enough for the "final fight," only to find out there was more to the game. I was already ready to roll the credits well before that fight, but it just didn't know when to say enough. Etrian Odyssey V did the same thing to me, and I loved that series to death. Knowing when to wrap things up in a game is just as important as knowing how to make a game long enough to keep it satisfying.

Wanderers from Y's III on SNES. He's not that hard he just has a tiny hit box and the limited range of your weapon paired with limited healing makes him a pain. I'll go back and get him someday...
