figuring out source code from fan games

I found a fan game from 2017 programmed with ruby and decided to mess with the code -
I managed to activate debug mode, so I'm gonna test the whole game and see where I can improve it
It's a mariovania style game, think classic mario gameplay mixed with igarashi style Castlevania
I forgot where I found it but I can post the files if anyone wants to try it - it's not my game though, but perhaps if others are interested this game could certainly be expanded
I just lack the programming knowledge to add more to it...
 
I'm gonna have to figure it out since it needs the physics adjusted big time - it wants to be a Mario game but the control is way too imprecise and slippery, almost like those games made with flash in the early 2000s
Even if it had the slower movement like symphony of the night does it would play more like a Castlevania game and that would also work
It would be better to have a greater degree of midair control than to have a faster movement speed for this game I think
