Fighting Game Thread

Yes, Unfortunately, the vast majority of remakes fall into this category, killing the original art style and replacing it with a worse style.

Even more annoying that it's not even a remake or whatever, it's just a literal reskin of Super 2 Turbo, but sold at full price.
The gameplay is still excellent, but everything else regarding the presentation is just super combo'd away lol

Full price and just a makeover of the Super combo...
Wow, what a load of rubbish to the consumer 😭

For new fighting games, I've been in between Tekken 8 (despite the drama) and Street Fighter 6. I can say that Street Fighter 6 is a lot more fun to get into than Tekken 8 in regards to casual players.

For oldies: Capcom Vs. SNK 2 (DC) and Bloody Roar (PS1). I really do hope someone drops a Phoenix Down on Bloody Roar. Whether a reboot or a remaster, doesn't matter. That game has been slept on for decades. There's so much under the surface of this edgy Animorphs fighter. More people should know about it. Plus the OST slaps.
As a 90's kid, i couldn't agree more. I miss Bloody roar 2

This might be the ugliest game ever made. I can't believe it was touted as a Switch launch title.

It sometimes looks okay-ish on screenshots, but these hyper-detailed sprites having the same frames as the original game is just abysmal. The statue in the background of Sagat's stage still has an ugly white photoshop border!!!
The sound effects suck too, blocking sounds like you're slapping a piece of paper.

The entire game just kind of looks to me like a really ambitious mid-2000s Newgrounds fan remake of SF2.
Yeah, about that... This game reuses the HD sprites from some Super Turbo HD Remix that was released during the 360 era, so even that's not exactly new, lol.

Honestly hand drawn sprites could've worked if it was done like LizardCube did...

For the same price I've bought the Collection which contained the original Super 2 Turbo which was much more worth it than just one game with a coat of paint and two clones.

Speaking of Street Fighter I've quite enjoyed the two fan remakes of Street Fighter 1

One of my favs

I wasn't trying to say it was bad. I just find it amusing how may different versions of Street Fighter 2 there are.
Yeah I know, it's fine it's just awesome!

Ah yes one of the 69,420 different versions of Street Fighter 2.
I'll always say 5 since those are the arcade versions.

I'm not counting Crawfish' GBA port as good as it was for its time nor the HD remix/Ultra since those are just remasters.

My Dad performed an epic combo on my mom and completely decimated her, fighting games in real life are the best!

At worst I can show that

And this (before HD Remix and Ultra got released)

Super II Turbo and Super II X are the same game, for some reason it was called X the Grand Master Challenge instead of Turbo in Japan before they've changed the name and in shorts Super without the Turbo was basically a beta version released earlier before Capcom brought back balancing and bugfixes (yeah, before it became commonplace).

Let's just say that Super is basically "Street Fighter II.5" since it ported the game to a newer system and added new characters with prettier backgrounds (like how Alpha and Street Fighter III had improved versions).

I love the GBA version its easy to play
I'm a bit confused by the L and R being used (honestly I dislike having to use shoulder buttons in modern fighting games). I think SFII could've worked well on the DS if they wanted to.

Yeah, SF2 on the DS would have ran sweet.
Even Alpha or III could've gotten a homebrew on it (maybe with some animation frames being removed for III for RAM saving).

Speaking of handheld ports I kinda liked the Alpha one on the GBC

I've actually spent a lot of time on the GBC port of Alpha 1. It's shockingly playable and smooth.

Tekken and Street Fighter is always welcome to me!
Ye tekken 8 is on a sale right now but so is WWE 2K25 for about the same price o decisions. i gave away my tekken 8 physical copy months back so someone can find it at a book case. i keep tekken 6, 7 and tag tournament 2 on my x box series s its my fighting hub
