The Year is 2015.
Awakening has sold gangbusters.
Paper Mario Sticker Star has crashed and burned.
Somehow, both games are getting a sequel.
Fire Emblem Fates is that sequel. With more involved mechanics, map exclusive mechanics, removed cheese, refined difficulty, Bad Writing, and 3 whole games of content; almost double the number of total chapters, Fates is-

Broadly considered one of the most widely disliked FE games.

For reasons that are not unwarranted, yes, but come along with me and you'll understand that this game has more to offer to a dedicated player than a casual fan, paradoxically. For all of the beamoaning how the series was now "Too anime" and "Infested By CASUALS", Fates arguably gives the real Hard Mode Gaming fans what they want over the 3ds noobs, to an extent only somewhat matched by future entries. Fates is a game of experimentation, vastly increasing the scope of combat by including more moving variables from combat to combat, more control over how units grow and change class, and also Gay Marriage! Gay marriage is suboptimal for mixed attacker builds but that's besides the point.

Streetpass! Fates has an integrated streetpass system for distributing your customizable main character Corrin (You're probably familiar with them as the girl from smash bros with her feet out a chainsaw sword, but corrin is a lot more than that. Corrins can be deployed in all missions, and despite not having support conversations, they are fully featured insofar as having the exact stats and growths as the genuine article. Now, while streetpass and the Suprisingly Robust Online System have been down for some time now, through the power of hacking we can add and modify these Corrin Clones into the game, fully customizable in terms of giving them an appearance, a Pokemon-Nature esque Boon/Bane, and just about any class in the game and custom skill sets to make up for their lack of post-generation reclassing

However, all corrins must know that they're fighting for their lives. in this Playthrough of Revelation Hard/Classic, permadeath is ENABLED. Your corrins CAN and perhaps WILL die. I, personally, have never played through Rev before in its entirety despite owning all 3 routes since launch, and although since I'm playing on the middle difficulty and have a lot of experience with the game's mechanics, I do NOT know the finer points about the back half of Rev.

Wompus now has an excellent nice as our best defensive unit. he can tank anything we need, and maybe I'll be able to get his axe rank up too

Last up: samus is swapping classes because I dont really care for her as a mechanist anymore and I'd rather she go in on better speed

Ok i have never seen this map before in my life and I took a 2 month break playing the game between right here and the previous chapter. so who knows how this will turn out (bad)

The enemies here are all clumped up and there are bridges we can swap between different pathways with the dragon vein

Well, this is shaping up to be one of the missions of all time. At least Wompus can get some solid XP now that he's promoted... He's gonna need it. we need big boys and he's our biggest boy right now

Her huge speed is pretty great, huh? moving into position up top there are some enemies incoming

Naizou is giving wompus a run for his money in terms of enemy phasing against swordmasters

Luna's bad hitrates will have to get better eventually, right?

these wyverns seem scary but their actual threat is kind of whatever

for as scary as a silver axe coming in is, korny has enough dual guard to just blank them entirely

a little bit of schmoovin lets us obliterate these enemies. the forged beast killer comes in handy against falcoknights, too

the berserkers could be scary but dual naginata makes them just kind of nothing

theyre quick but at this point any enemy who can't fight back against magic is just a sitting duck

Samus can't quite take down this kinshi, this took a minute because I wanted to make sure she could wind up on the forest tile while still being able to get everyone else into position

I opted for alpha yato because it has a higher crit rate, but it didnt work out lol

Ok, i was expecting something to go wrong here - my lightweights are all exposed because I mis sequenced taking down the enemies around me

that said, the Healing AI had the kinshi just roll over to the fort. Hooray!

An S rank spear? There are a few weapons like these and they range from being Pretty Solid to Kind of Ass. Waterwheel is... acceptable. You really need to have built a unit ahead of time because only very specific classes can even get A ranks, much less S ranks, and they take forever to get up to anyway. Broadly, Waterwheel, Excalibur, and maybe pursuer are pretty decent if impractical and the others are various levels of ass

Luna also gets a good one. I would have liked to see more skill considering how tepid her hit rates have been but strenght, speed, and defense is good on anyone

Korin, who hasn't really done anything except be valuable pair up fodder for some time now, still cant really even kill a nice target for her. feels bad

CHAPTER 21:

Well, we need a new squad after a string of deaths last chapter. let's get some good ones, huh?

First up: Cheela is a mounted healer with some self regeneration and also another rally spectrum. They don't stack, but its always nice to have an extra staffer on deck

Erdrick is a pretty run of the mill spear fighter. His high crit will be very useful, but other than that he's about as earnest as they come. Lancebreaker is a pretty neato skill to have too

Last up, Olevious is another healer with a money making gimmick. on kill, sometimes he gets free iron weapons and every kill bumps up his luck a little. a moderate return on modest investment
