The Year is 2015.
Awakening has sold gangbusters.
Paper Mario Sticker Star has crashed and burned.
Somehow, both games are getting a sequel.
Fire Emblem Fates is that sequel. With more involved mechanics, map exclusive mechanics, removed cheese, refined difficulty, Bad Writing, and 3 whole games of content; almost double the number of total chapters, Fates is-

Broadly considered one of the most widely disliked FE games.

For reasons that are not unwarranted, yes, but come along with me and you'll understand that this game has more to offer to a dedicated player than a casual fan, paradoxically. For all of the beamoaning how the series was now "Too anime" and "Infested By CASUALS", Fates arguably gives the real Hard Mode Gaming fans what they want over the 3ds noobs, to an extent only somewhat matched by future entries. Fates is a game of experimentation, vastly increasing the scope of combat by including more moving variables from combat to combat, more control over how units grow and change class, and also Gay Marriage! Gay marriage is suboptimal for mixed attacker builds but that's besides the point.

Streetpass! Fates has an integrated streetpass system for distributing your customizable main character Corrin (You're probably familiar with them as the girl from smash bros with her feet out a chainsaw sword, but corrin is a lot more than that. Corrins can be deployed in all missions, and despite not having support conversations, they are fully featured insofar as having the exact stats and growths as the genuine article. Now, while streetpass and the Suprisingly Robust Online System have been down for some time now, through the power of hacking we can add and modify these Corrin Clones into the game, fully customizable in terms of giving them an appearance, a Pokemon-Nature esque Boon/Bane, and just about any class in the game and custom skill sets to make up for their lack of post-generation reclassing

However, all corrins must know that they're fighting for their lives. in this Playthrough of Revelation Hard/Classic, permadeath is ENABLED. Your corrins CAN and perhaps WILL die. I, personally, have never played through Rev before in its entirety despite owning all 3 routes since launch, and although since I'm playing on the middle difficulty and have a lot of experience with the game's mechanics, I do NOT know everything.

Meanwhile, a battle rages!

Yukimura me and my new bisexual girlfriend have to go help Kamui. I heard his awesome song that ruled

Sadly, As yukimura isn't a real character, he cannot respond to this information and will instead do nothing

The bottomless canyon is a lot more, on fire, than it was when we were last here huh

We were going there anyway I don't think we needed his help

First up, housekeeping. PDG now has a very good weapon on her, with gives free stats, extra avoid, and has a nice crit boost. This will go far.

I had an extra heart seal laying around, and while I could sell it, now that we can just grab the Hoshido noble skills we might as well. It's only one level of xp for something that like probably going to be somewhat helpful, right?

Ryoma Thundercock and his cabal have joined us. Ryoma is probably still stronger than any of our corrins and has the weapon that can cut god in half

Scarlet, who we fought in chapter 12, is also here and she's great too. I don't have any wyverns myself so having one that I can keep handy for even just this mission is very nice, her strength and def are both great

Anyway, Ryoma is more than capable, even against promoted enemies, This sorc isn't worth shit. Raijinto does a lot for his combat, but even without it he's still amazing.

Back down in our corner of the map, Kamui gets a nice crit. Getting the rest of our unpromoted crew some levels is going to be really helpful coming up

The alpha yato is damn good, but as naizou is showing, sometimes you can't beat a weapon with 1-2 range...

The terrain gimmick of this map are these crevasses. The dragon vein can toggle on and off the fire, which makes them go from impenetrable to traversable. Keep in mind that these "off" crevasses can be moved through but never stood on

These Enemies are decently strong, including some adventurers, who I'd really rather not engage at range. Only Kamui himself can change the veins, so we're just going to have to grin and bear it

Dentist is happy to take a chunk out of this adventurer,

and Luna ends up taking the kill.

These mages have little enough HP that we can one shot with the javelin. Thanks Naizou!

Moving Kamui in, we just need to get him one level by the end of this map, that's it. Bee is a very nice support partner for him, because if there's anything Kamui is lacking in right now, it's speed

I tell ya, bee, these unpromoted goons aren't worth my time. If i need to fix my bad stats, it's gonna be the promoted ones who'll get me there

True, true. Our other promoted units aren't here right now, so it's up to you to handle the big guys.

Back into it, Korin has some excellent calcs against these dark mages. It's a shame that in Rev, I recently found this out, You don't get the beaststone upgrades forever. Sucks

Cutting through the middle, Dentist has something of a scary calc against this adventurer but luckily ellipse will never steer us wrong

Moving on up to the middle, these generals are a bit too strong for us to handle wholesale. Let's slash them down a little, no?

Draconic Hex does so much. 4 speed down on its own is amazing but a functional -8 bulk also softens up enemies. Even though his actual damage output kind of blows, Kamui is still able to action economy out almost every foe we'll be fighting for a while off of debuffs alone. Levin sword doesn't hurt either

The ever-shy naizou decides that getting a crit with an actual killer weapon should be reserved for when it matters the absolute least

Luna gets a very well appreciated level though. Good for her?

PDG can absolutely cleave through these guys. Does she know ryoma is watching...?

also I didn't take very many screenshots of it happening because it involved minimal corrins, but assume between every action that ryoma and scarlet are aura farming in the corner

Dentist gets an amicable level off an armor

Bee gets the absolute worst level I could still consider good

It's a bit hard to show this in action, but know that Kamui is swapping on and off these flame ducts to get everyone in the same space

Well, while we do hear a very neat bell tolling ominously in the background, Korin is no worse for wear

This situation isn't idea either, but at least we can handle the individual enemies decently well. We're going to need a hell of an enemy phase if they all try to move at once...

We're in kind of a tight spot here. the combination of the adventurer and berserker does not make a small impact on kamui's healthbar. Luckily this fire vent makes some makeshift cover

Back up with the B team, this berserker has some huge strength but none of it matters because...

Alpha Yato is cracked. Combine that with duelist's blow and these guys cant touch PDG

It's just embarrassing at this point

He also gets dragon ward, a skill I usually never bother picking up but I'm grabbing just because it might come up at some point, and also I have an extra heart seal so might as well honestly

I elect not to move in Ellipse because it's a bit of a dangerous situation to move her in to. berserkers are scary when you have such low defense

This sucks. bee was one of the most promising of the unpromoted squad, having good matchups against the many fliers that will become more apparent over time, she could have promoted to adventurer to get staff access (something we barely have any of) and had amazing speed and damage output with the Fujin Yumi. Damn.

Let's just end this asshole, shall we?

Well, I guess we're going to have to be doing things on the fly. Kamui's final class is going to be Basara, because it gets some cool skills and is a decent spellsword. it, uh, might not work out as well as I thought it would, for reasons that will start to be apparent as we go on... But still, Kamui has enough going for him that I at least plan on trying to make it work. and even if it doesn't! Spear master (or just going back to nohr noble lol) is never off the table... hopefully

Ok so we are offically deep into the rev levels that I have never played and only kind of ever seen. This is a nightmare these enemies are broadly all promoted and have pretty amazing stats. And there's a lot of them!

Iago, ever loyal to the cause, is fighting to the last red man he can muster. Let's move.

Korny is here, and we move downwards to face the swarm of enemies to our immediate south. These guys are a real big cluster of cavalry, with both physical and magical attackers on hand, so someone like Korny to take them down is a real boon

Korny's displayed level is going to be wonky going forward on account of being a dlc class so just remember that she still has plenty of room to grow

Korin does what she does best: bait these magic enemies. Shame that she has NO 1-2 range to take advantage of it...

Korny's Res buff skills are coming in serious handy here

Meanwhile, Xander and his cohort Leo take a stab at the paladins moving in on their location

... and are promptly accompanied by Selphina, Kain, Alva, and Robert

These guys are so ass that I genuinely think theyre like this because IntSys ran out of money. There had to have just not been enough time to playtest the game. I don't know how they thought giving you these unpromoted units at this point was anything resembling a good idea. More bodies on board is nice! I don't really care if they live or die it doesn't effect me much... which sucks, because Odin and Niles are my GOATs

This... is messy, isnt it.
Yeah there are a LOT of enemies, a lot of overlapping attack ranges, and those generals do NOT mess around with the damage output. This will be tricky to phase through

At least we aren't doing as bad as this armor knight. getting one-rounded by Kamui is a hell of a feat

This cav faces worse fate than any - Getting Dabbed on by Naizou.

Meanwhile, Xander is getting to show off his stats: While ryoma is unflappable in all facets of life, Xander goes all in on Strength, Defense, and Luck. this great knight cant do anything to him.

Odin gets his ass beat real quick

Niles actually has the stats to take out one of the enemies so I have him capture one of the cavaliers for fun

As nice as it is to have beastslayer Korin really struggles against promoted great knights and paladins. Unfortunate situation to be in.

Thankfully, she does much better against the dark knight and has enough guard gauge to make it so we don't need to worry about her getting dodgescrewed and possibly just dying right here right now

This was a very scary move to make but if I didn't, then the rest of the team would have all been in danger. Thanks for not fumbling this one Luna!

An excellent level, too

Ungumming this situation will leave us pretty much golden for the majority of this chapter, so some easy prey is appreciated
