So I know there are documentations on both emulators that shed light on the most important aspects, but I fail to see explanations for these two doubts:

FBNeo:
Despite having the required folders set ('roms' and 'patched' folder with the original ROM and the hack respectively, with the same filename), and having the patched roms option active, the emulator does not do anything with the ROM once executing it, it simply plays the regular game. I've verified that the hack needs the specific version of the game I'm using, and every other detail, yet nothing happens. Of course, I'm using RetroArch, so if anyone can assist me with this, I'm grateful.

MAME: To be honest I don't know much about how it works: The retroarch cores seem totally broken (even with all the functional bios, etc.), while the standalone version seems to work, but none of the roms that load perfectly on FBNeo work at all on MAME, giving me warnings of missing files inside the zips. I know some games only work on one or the other, but it seems too much of a hassle and complicated to navigate. I also don't know how to use romhacks on that one.

I ask on the forum since the dedicated communities for these emulators are extremely gatekeepy and rude to newcomers, so I hope I can get some info about the causes of these behaviours. If I don't, thanks anyways. Love.

MAME are easy if you download complete set to the version you are using(search for pleasuredome), if not search for unmerged set (each zip have all the files to run the game).

negatron is a good frondtend for mame, if you not with use the mame native interface.
