By far my favourite arcade game company, they’re a comfort developer for me (bonus points if you can mention the game my avatar is from).

They’re responsible for the obvious classics (Space Invaders, Bubble + Puzzle Bobble. Then there are the cult classics (New Zealand Story, Ninja Kids). Who could forget the Darius series, with a soundtrack that’s so ahead of its time it’s hugely slept on.

I’ll share some of my personal favourites, Bonze Adventure, Space Invaders 95, Cameltry, Runark, I could go on for way too long.

Let’s hear yours!

The Ninja Warriors 1994

Puzzle Bobble definitely, one of the only games that are still enjoyable on multiple platforms (amazing amount of good ports)

Power Blazer is pretty fun too

Puzzle Bobble
For my money, the king of the genre

Right you are. I’ve got it on everything from DOS to Steam, Sega Saturn to PS2. It’s available virtually everywhere these days

Big shout to Power Blazer. I consider myself a human Taito trivia machine & I have only heard of it recently!

I've got some fond memories of Bust-A-Move 4 on the PlayStation.
Little Samson on the NES, as well. Although I never did own a copy of that game, I have played it on hardware.
And of course, the Lufia duo on the Super Nintendo.

The avatar comes from Liquid Kids. I knew pretty much because I recently watched a video that mentioned the game. Not sure which one it was exactly, though...

Kiki Kaikai

Years ago I went to an arcade while I was having a bad day and tucked away in a corner was the most peculiar game I had ever seen. I was quite intrigued by the attract screen so I popped in a coin and tried playing. I didn't get very far, but I had a blast playing the game and at the time I had never seen anything like it. I took a photo of the title screen and when I got home that night I searched obsessively about the game. I found out that the series continued with a couple of games on the SNES and one on the GBA. I quickly fell in love with the series, and to this day it holds a very special place in my heart.

I have to say these two here are classics that every shoot em up fan must play before they can be called a shoot em up fan period. Thats how good these games are and they freaking aged well on top of that.

I LOVE this one, my favourite Puzzle Bobble is 2, but I’ve been emulating 4 on my Steamdeck via Emudeck. Excellent game with a fresh chain feature. Also yup, you’re spot on with the character guess. I love that game

Excellent choice. Loved hearing your story. I’m unfortunate enough (and possibly young enough) to never have seen a Taito cabinet in the wild despite my obsession. I love the game though, quite difficult

For some reason, I REALLY like The Legend Of Kage, as well as Pocky & Rocky.
I remember seeing LOK for the first time and remembering how epic and cinematic the movements and visuals were. I think P&R has a new-ish game out on Steam under the subtitle of ‘Reshrined’

Truly timeless & a revolutionary take on the genre. An epic series. G Darius was to me what the epic scale of Shadow of Colossus was to most players. Greatest arcade soundtrack ever

They have aged like wine. If a shoot-em-up lover has not played this, my heart aches for them. If I ever get a tattoo, it’ll be of the Silver Hawk ?

A childhood favourite. I love this game so much. Sadly, the only friend who will play this with me doesn’t have a good enough attention span to help me reach the ending

Magic Pengel and Graffiti Kingdom for the PS2 are unique oddities that let you draw your own creature and battle them like Pokemon (Magic Pengel) or act as a 3D platforming hero (Graffiti Kingdom)
