Favourite stories in fighting games ?

Orochi and NEST Sagas in KOF. Gameplay-wise 99-2003 were very much odd, arguable messy games, but the presentation and story were simple and cool. Whip's original endings and her original uncensored supers officially made her my favorite after K' and Maxima. Those NEST era was full of cool designs and 2K2 was a nice sendoff.

Orochi saga in King of fighters.

Same. I remember reading and reading and reading about the backstory for most KOF97 characters. It was surprisingly engaging!

I'm awful at fighting games, but I picked up BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2 when it came out on 3DS since there was so little to play for the system in the early months, and the branching story paths system meant I could play it as a visual novel that just happened to have fighting game segments, and I had a great time with it playing that way
