hey y'all, this year i want to bust out my PS3 again and dig more into the 7th gen. What are some favourites of yours? hidden gems? cool jank? weirdo shit? This era of games is still kind of a blindspot for me outside of the huge obvious games so I'm trying to learn about more releases!

Tokyo Jungle, I always have a good time when I do a run on that.
You pick an animal and try and survive for as long as possible in a post apocalyptic city with no humans. Your animal also has a lifespan and you have to find a mate before dying of old age so you can continue playing as the offspring.
It was a digital only game, at least outside of Japan.

  • Uncharted 2
  • Malicious - Though I played the PS4 version only.
  • Resistance 3
  • Oneechanbara Z Kaguara with NoNo - You are goint to need a translation guide for the menus. Japanese only title.
  • Kung-Fu Rider

All I can contribute for your PS3 is Armored Core and Sengoku Basara 4: Sumeragi (the PS4 English Patch fucking suck so play PS3 version instead), assuming you like Musou that is.

If you want to get freaky try 3D Dot Game Heroes as well.

The obvious next step is to get EXTRA FREAKY then Africa will make you question your freakiness.

Ni no Kuni
Prototype
Space Marine Warhammer
3D Dot Hero
Tales of Xilla 1 and 2
Trails of Cold Steel
Puppeteer

(I still playing ps3 games)

Still alive
I’m still alive
And I can’t apologize noooo

(Also the PS3 versions of Final Fantasy XIII are the best you’re gonna get unless Square decides to remaster them)

It's just too bad this is the definitive edition after the poor PS4 remake that couldn't even get Wanders face right. Not to mention the lack of forced perspective and Collossi movement differing from the original among many other problems bordering on spoiler territory. A remake made for games journalists and new players not interested in ever playing the original. All style no substance.

Ni No Kuni, first and foremost.

I also get a lot of joy from some of the more niche/kinda small JRPGs that filled the console's library. I downloaded a lot awhile back and had fun rocketing 2-4 hour play sessions from them. I'll revisit them another time, maybe. But getting little snippets of these games fills my heart enough to claim satisfaction.
I recommend anyone reading this to download random JRPGs of any console (specifically PS2/PS3 are where random ass JRPGs peaked, if you ask me though) and spend a night with 'em! Play more than what's heavily recommended- play something that has a cool title/game cover!
