favourite modern game

Soooo many.
FF16 "rely good honestly but way to damn easy and to much game of throne like and I mean people dies left and right"
Stardew valley
Subnutica
Everspcae 1 and 2
Rimworld
Monster hunter world
Fallout 4
Skyrim
Anno 1800

And I could proboly make a top 300 list but no I don´t wanna bore you all to death.

I'll just say the most recent one I played and absolutely loved was Dave The Diver! It's a gilded age for gaming in general.

i dont know if it counts as modern anymore but probably "sakuna: of rice and ruin"
my other pick would be disco elysium cause i really really liked that game.

Some of my big favorites from the past couple years have been...

Doom Eternal: The game is just so tightly designed. Really fun even 5 years later.

God of War Ragnarok: There are parts of the game that really should've been shortened to give more time to the ending, but the DLC really makes the combat pop. The Draupnir Spear is one of my favorite weapons in a Hack and Slash game I swear.

Like A Dragon Gaiden: Blah Blah talking about how it made me cry again. But actually I think it has some of the most fun combat in the series. People underestimate the cold ass shit you can do with the Agent Style.

Alan Wake II: Amazing artstyle, crazy how well it ran on my PS5 with all the crazy graphical stuff going on in it. I also enjoy Remedy's storytelling so you know.

Dead Island 2: Sure, not the most remarkable game, but I'd argue that it is. It was one of the only games in 2023 that was actually really well optimized, the gore is great, and I feel like the smaller scale appeals to me moreso than the first two, but those are good games too.

Blade and Sorcery: I swear I used to be big on hating VR, always thought it was a gimmick. But being able to use some of my martial arts experience in lightsaber battles is the most dirt nasty shit I've played I swear. Such a fun game.

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot: First Anime-based game I've played since the PS3 I've enjoyed. Didn't think they'd do an Action RPG like that for DBZ. Just mad they won't port over the next gen graphics to PC, and they're really stingy on DLC packs. There's already a new one coming out for Daima, I bought the Ultimate Edition back in 2021 and I still had to buy the second season pass, AND THEY ARE STILL MAKING DLC WHAT THE HELL!

Rise of the Ronin: I think it has some of Team Ninja's best combat. Really slick game. Runs like dog on PC though, even on my buddies supercomputer with a 4080 16gb and an i9-14900.

I'm sure I'm gonna have to add Ninja Gaiden 4 to this list when that drops.

I don't have anything else right now, these are just some of the more significant games I've played lately.

Dead Cells is probably the one i have played and liked the most

full completed until 4 boss cells (imo dable after a LOT of training), the fifth cell difficulty level is a nightmare instead, too much for me

I've been interested in this. I think I got it for free on Epic but not sure. I know I got it for free somewhere. I need to get around to playing it sometime.

this has been my favorite game for a while

I'll think on "modern" as PS4 or above:
Devil May Cry 5
Doom 2016
Tormented Souls
Remothered Tormented Fathers
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Persona 5 Strikers
Hitman and Hitman 2

If remasters or ports count:
Fatal Frame 4
Fatal Frame 5
Outlast
Outlas 2
Amnesia The Dark Descent

In terms of modern AAA games, the 2.0 patch of Cyberpunk 2077 really caught me off guard. I played it the first time around and enjoyed it well enough despite its myriad flaws, but the update made it one of my favorite games, like top 20 at least. I find the overall atmosphere crass and stupid (LOL bro the billboard ad is actually a sexual innuendo! x2000) but I can't really complain because that's the current path American culture is heading down. Mostly I just liked the freedom to jump around and cause havoc with my build, balance be damned. It felt kind of old school in that way. I played as a "shotgun samurai"

Persona 5 Royal comes to mind. I've cleared 3 palaces and I'm liking it a lot so far. Aside from that I'd add Dark Souls 1-3, DOOM 2016 (I have eternal but haven't launched it yet), Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel (yes I like modern Yu-Gi-Oh), KOF XV, and Street Fighter 6. I would add Street Fighter V but I really only liked it towards the later seasons. Seasons 1 through 2 were absolute crap.

I am surprised to find FFXVI in almost every thread about favourite games or games that are very good. My feeling is totally opposite. I am playing it with a friend at his home with his PS5 and I am finding the game dull and the main character is one of the worst characters I've found in a videogame. The facial animations are atrocious (you never know if they are feeling rage or they want to shit) and the performance of the game is like WTF every time a new map is being loaded. The secondary missions are 95% stupid and the companions keep going back and forth in front of the enemy without doing anything most of the time. There is more stuff but I just want to keep my deception off the table lol.

My favourite modern game would be: Nier Automata but I didn't play it more than 5 minutes so I don't know if I would end loving it or not.

ffxvi is a very perspective game
for example a lot of the rpg-only type people dislike xvi by default, as it is an action game with very very light rpg window dressing
it is a hack and slash action game in which you engage in melee combat with opponents, having an additional, weaker ranged option. you can combo enemies and kill bosses to get new boss weapons. those boss weapons you can freely switch to and from to keep combos going for longer periods of time. you kill enemies who drop red orbs you use to upgrade your weapons and learn new skills. if final fantasy xvi sounds like a devil may cry game, that's because it basically is a wonky square style devil may cry type action game. since the combat is executed rather well (exclusively on final fantasy mode), and since i like action games, i think xvi is pretty swag.
xvi's weakest aspect is that it still has rpg game conventions, like side quests and cities to walk around and do boring stuff in. rpgs are my favourite genre - but square should have gone full action game in regard to game design since they designed the combat and mechanics as an action game
the game also needed final fantasy mode playable from the start. it is far too easy on normal

that's what everyone has been telling them for years but they keep trying to straddle the line. that won't work forever.
