Been getting mad high on speculative biology lately - thinking about lots of alien species from science fiction and was wondering what sorta creatures you guys like. Feel free to ramble uncontrollably if you want because I sure as shit will.

Absolutely no "they're humans but with blue skin and telepathy" or other pseudo-fantasy races will be tolerated - this one is for the eggheads.

Here are some of my top picks:
Xenomorph.webp

Xenomorphs - Obvious classic; these guys are what first sparked my interest in this sorta crap. I also like that the penis-headed, penetrator monster has lots of parallels to femininity, and I find it cool that they're usually compared to bugs and serpents.
Metroids.jpg

Metroids - They have a lot of cool aspects like being a predatory unicellular organism, going through stages of shedding, and feeding on an unknown energy source, but I really just like the mystique of them. Having been gradually explored over many years through vague in-game references does a lot for them. Also, their name literally comes from "Metro Subway" and "Android", however, unbeknownst to the devs, Metroid translates into "mother-like" in ancient Greek which I think is so perfect for the series.
The Thing.webp

The Thing (Organism) - Another unicellular one. This thing is just hardcore. I like that it's a creature that's hard to pin down - for everything we know about it, there are ten things we don't. Btw, I watched this film in the cinema last night and if you ever get the opportunity I highly recommend it. I've seen this film at least 10 times but the auditory experience in a cinema was unparalleled.
Bioraptor.webp
Bioraptor2.webp

Bioraptors - Something something perfect predators, something something grounded in real-world biology... I just think they're cute. Look at the way the baby clings to the mother in the concept art (they will most certainly eat them when food is low). They're an obvious derivative of Xenomorphs but they're THE PERFECT derivative of Xenomorphs yenno?
Weeping_Angel.jpg

Weeping Angels - Just sheer influence alone. The premise is so writhe with potential for media endeavours that it genuinely shocks me no one really explored it before. These guys completely transcend their status as "Doctor Who monster" into something almost folk-lore-esque and that's mighty impressive.
Hounds.png

Hounds of Tindalos - These guys aren't as popular so let me explain: anti-dimensional beasts that prey on time-travellers. They exist outside the vectors of reality and enter our world through sharp corners of "120° or less", and being aware of them makes them aware of you. Frankly, it's hard to get much more alien than these guys - they're a being on a complete different level to anything in our world, and yet they still hunt and eat just like everything else. Some interpretations try to frame them as some sort of 'agents of the time stream', working to fix time when meddling goes awry, but I I always felt that was cringe and prefer them as just otherworldly jackals looking for a good meal. (btw the picture used is very inaccurate to what little is described of them, all the other pics I saw were worse though)
Yithian.jpg
Great Race of Yith.PNG

Yithians - Hard to get much more classic than these guys. They're the sorta alien my nan would come up with and I mean that in the best possible way. I like that, for as different as they are, they're also very human in a way. They're completely, biologically abstracted from from us in just about every way yet we can still recognise an equal - possibly even more advanced - culture that mirrors our own. Also, in the Call of Cthulhu videogame (the beloved one), a Yithian took control of some guy to bang and impregante his wife, and that certainly is something...

Mudokons are my favorite species because they are friggin' adorable and make loyal minions

This is a really good one. I never thought of Oddworld inhabitants as aliens, but like, yeh, duh...
Me though? I'm a Slig guy. Could get into some real situations with a gang of these guys at your side

Oktigi are pretty cool as well - freaky

(calm down liberals it's called canal ocho humor)

close second would be the asteromorph descendants from all tomorrows. although I don't know if they technically count as aliens... but i wont spoil why for people who haven't read all tomorrows yet

For the sake of this discussion, all the creatures from All Tomorrows should probably count - if anything they should count twice because of the speculative biology angle. Nice pick btw (both actually) - I like the Gravitals myself so the Asteromorph descendants get my vote

Aren't this guys a monsters from "Pitch Black" movie? I mean creatures on picture. They are from the first film about Riddick🤔

Pierson’s Puppeteers.
A highly advanced species of absolute cowards. Their culture revolves around self-preservation, with any risk-taking considered suicidal madness. Three legs, two heads, one brain, zero spine(metaphorically). Notable things the Puppeteers have got up to:

Moving their home planet out of their solar system before their sun entered the red giant phase, arranging it in a Klemperer rosette with four farm planets dedicated to feeding their trillion+ population.

Discovering a violent, space-faring species called the Kzin, and immediately orchestrating a war between the Kzin and mankind to weaken the threat both posed to Puppeteers.

Manipulating the human race into implementing a birthright lottery system with the clandestine goal of testing whether or not luck is a heritable trait. Turns out it is, and they created the luckiest girl in the universe; Teela Brown.

The Pak.

The Pak aren’t, strictly speaking, alien to humans. The Pak were the original humans who did a panspermia. They had a three stage life-cycle. The first two, child and breeder, correspond to the child and adult stages of human life. The third, protector, happens when a Pak becomes infertile. They suddenly crave a plant native to the Pak homeworld, called Tree of Life. Once digested, the plant triggers a metamorphosis, and the Pak goes into a sort of coma as their body changes. The brain grows in both size and density. The teeth fall out and are replaced by a beak. The joints swell and develop hardened shells. When the Pak wakes up they are inhumanly strong and hyperintelligent, but their only thought and desire is to protect children and breeders of their bloodline.

The Pak homeworld was nearer the galactic core and exposed to higher levels of radiation, thus the Pak evolved to sniff out and snuff out genetic aberration, be it mutation or simply an unfamiliar bloodline. This resulted in both evolutionary stagnation and a constant state of hostility between families, which led some Pak to develop the technology to spread their seed to the far corners of the galaxy, away from the clan wars and radiation. One such seed found Earth, which was well suited for Pak biology save one detail; the soil of Earth lacked an essential molecule for Tree of Life to grow. The Pak on Earth would never become protectors, only grow old and die as breeders. This, as it turns out, was actually a good thing. As rotten as humans can be, the original Pak were way, way worse.

I also dig a lot of the weird, niche filling species of the ringworld, but if I start talking about Ringworld I’ll never stop.

I think they look neat.
Cool guy. Perhaps you'd be interested in seeing the fella they're based on...
Gort.jpg

This is Gort, from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) - much less cool but he's got a lot of charm. Seeing them next to each other like this all I can think is "Starman if he was bisexual and from Atlanta"

The Pak.
Really awesome response. This is the first I've properly heard of Larry Niven's work but looking them up I recognise a lot of their iconography. The Pierson's Puppeteer reminds me of the aliens from Zen in Half Life. The idea of a species evolving 3 limbs interests me a lot because it's obviously not something seen on Earth in any notable capacity, so trying to rationalise it is very theoretical, but the cowardice thing adds a new angle - they look like they have a 360° range of vision so maybe having 3 legs lets them pivot and turn around quicker to escape an encounter; or maybe it's very inefficient, but they're so cowardly that they just never evolved a more mobile and ergonomic structure (same idea could even be seen in their long, exposed necks). The Paks creep me out (positive). Yeah, nice one, gonna check out some of Larry Niven's stuff, so if you've got any suggestions I'd really appreciate them

Skaarj ( Unreal Tournament )
1000072641.gif

The badass Predators at home you could find in fiction . Conquering the universe and having an attitude akin to a shotgun blast point blank because Rage replaces coffee and the whole universe owed you 5000 Space-dollars and Chicken Tendies from Mcthulhu . I like these guys somehow .

Battletoads
1000072642.jpg

Those are in fact Aliens . Not human , can even breathe in space and fly in space-ship sometimes ... those are just cool . Beating the crap out of rat-men , pigs and minotaur mutants with delight . Just badass and they are awesome .

.... I see a pattern now .... but im not sure where this all could lead . ::thinking
