Hello ! i'm playing again some tales of games ( here, tales of the abyss ).

I saw there is a lot of games in the series and would like to know what's your favorites ? top 3 ?

those game seems to have some fans but way less than FF or other series.

thanks !

First love (and always favourite) has been "Tales of Innocence" on DS with English Patch (first Tales and first patched games for me!). I tried "Tales of Tempest" always patched on ds but I got stuck on a minigame in which you had to swtich blocks of stone (but I liked the game).
I also played Abyss, one of my first games on 3ds, I remember I liked it.

1. Tales of Symphonia
2. Tales of the Abyss
3. Tales of Vesperia

I also have to mention Tales of Legendia. Not because it's good. It would've been a great game if not for one fatal flaw: the battle system is absolutely horrid. Breaks my heart because everything else about the game is good. The characters are charming, the story is memorable, the soundtrack is godly. All they had to do was tack on Abyss' or even Symphonia's battle system. It's such a shame.

I've only ever played Tales of Phantasia on snes with the Dejap translation, where Arche probably fucks like a tiger, and Tales of Symphonia on GameCube. I preferred Tales of Phantasia.

I reallly really like Tales of Berseria, enjoyed that game a whole lot. A few years later, I tried Tales of Vesperia DE on the Switch and I just....... did NOT like the game. The battle system is clunky and frustrating (why does everything attack faster than my basic hit and take half my health in a combo, why do I keep getting ganked) and the story kinda was going somewhere but it felt like half the cast had been hit with Lawful Stupid juice. For a game that's dear to many people, I was really disappointed, I really wanted to like it but I couldn't. I have yet to try other entries in the series, but I want to like those too.

"Tales of" series is a curious thingy because not all "Tales of" games are for you so it's like the whole series is like a pizza with different flavours in each game so you gotta find your own "pizza". For example for me I do like other "Tales of" games but specifically Tales of Symphonia is just "right". It's like trying lots of cheese flavored junk food but you only click with Nacho Cheese Doritos™©℗®, and this was my "Tales of Pizza" analogy lolol.

Apart from Tales of the abyss ( heard about it from the anime) i Remember fondly tales of xilia and graces f on the PS3. Good games

Haven't played all the tales of games, but my favorite currently is still the original for the SNES phantasia. I've played Zestria remake and I like it, but I hate the NPC keep trying to use all my gels. Wish they had a setting to get them to stop asking instead of hitting the prompt every 3 seconds.

Honestly, among all the games in the Tales Franchise, I have only played Tales of Symphonia on the GameCube (which fortunately is the best version of the game and at the same time the best way to play this great game).

Symphonia, great story and gameplay balance, memorable cast and a nice level entry game for the series, also Tempest, my debut in the series, people calls it boring but i enjoyed it, coming in the R4 that came with my first DS

I played Tales of Abyss to Berseria I think, and there was Graces F there too.
Abyss and Vesperia are definitive top tiers for me, but I did not dislike rest. Well, I disliked Grace f; way too much power of friendship without any intrigue or such to it. Rest are fine but none are quite the balance of graphical style, presentation, interesting characters, worlds and story like Abyss and Vesperia, and I would bet Symphonia would likely rank there too but I have not actually played that one for myself.
I do own it though so, excuses. My interest in series vaned a lot after Berseria. It was not all that that people and marketing before it made it to be, it was much more boring from main character's aspect, though it expanded Zestiria nicely enough, and I liked Zestiria way much more than most other people did. Just, no real motivation towards Arise. My 20's hype to the series dead as a whimper after Berseria.

Those who HAVE played Symphonia and can tell: Would PS3 HD collection version triumph over GameCube with it's additional content and dual audio, or would GameCube still win over with it's 60fps battles?

I've only played, the snes/ps1 era plus Innocence and a bit of symphonia of the main series, of those I say Eternia(psp) is my favorite.(ended doing that card game a bit too much).

Never played PS3, not even on emulator. Latest PS I played was 2nd so it has the "remake/updated" version of the game which I imagine later ports are based on PS2 version because "don't waste all the assets here yo" and here is why people prefer GameCube version instead: They don't want anime cutscenes and story changes in ports of the game.

Not all people want this game turned into a way it attract new generation Japanese gamer type who like seeing anime everywhere. If you see no problem with it then you would enjoy additional content they added in port versions, then kinda GameCube version would be an inferior version. Other than this the updated game does not give you "old game" vibe and "original game" vibe. Not a bad ports but people are weirded out with big deal changes made into the game.

Tales of Destiny on Playstation 1 was the right timing and right console for me. I was in college, looking for games that had humor, story, and a good amount of content. I didn't finish it, but I didn't regret buying it.

Since then, I've tried a handful of other games in the franchise. Tales of the Abyss on 3DS was good timing and the right console. After a few hours, I sort of liked it, but I wasn't compelled to keep going. Tales of Hearts R on Vita was another case of good timing and a console I liked, but after an hour or two, I didn't enjoy it.

There's franchises I like and dislike, and explaining the reasons is tough. Inio Asano's Solanin was gloomy, but it was short and just down to earth enough. Mochiro Hoshisato's Living Game had elements I liked, but at the time, I didn't have the patience for ten fan translated books. Even though I now see Flame of Recca as a knockoff fighting series, during the late 1990s I couldn't get enough of it. I made an attempt to enjoy Gintama, but I didn't find it funny or compelling enough to continue.

Gamecube for sure. The extra content is very minor and imo it's not worth giving up the more responsive battles. It's an action rpg, after all. Also while dual audio is nice, it introduced some bugs where dialogue is missing or the wrong line is played. Thankfully the dub's actually really good. There IS an undub on the repo if you really want japanese audio though.

Basically, Bamco has yet to release a port superior to the original. And that's not elitism. I'd love to play a proper HD rendition of Symphonia.

Yeah. The reason is that they used the japan only PS2 port as the base for the HD version.
While I know undub exists, it is kinda easier to play the game from my discs than get one of those. To me Tales games are OK dubs, just that the thing they skimmed with was the skits being voices in dub, making me play Abyss with an undub to restore that content, and Vesperia was very OK to play originally on 360 when the skits are fully voiced.
