The eternal debate.

Out of all mainstream superhero franchises, I think X-Men has by far had the most cool, diverse and interesting designs. They're super varied, with both friends and foes having all sorts of cool, hot, monstrous, imposing and weird designs. What are some of your favorites?

Here are some of mine.

That's 90s X-Men, not classic X-Men. Actual classic X-Men is either from the late 60s (when the series sucked) or the Claremont era (when the series got good). But if you want to claim X-Men has more than one classic era, fair enough.
Yeah those are the classic to me since it's what I started with

I don't have any current knowledge of the looks, but I liked Dazzler and Magik, though I'm not sure how long they were affiliated.

• Jubilee's current run design (X-Men from the ashes)
90s rogue
• Astonishing wolverine
• Cat beast is my personal favorite
• between 90s emma and astonishing emma or even some of her outfits in krakoa X-Men era
• 90s gambit
• Jean's current phoenix look
• astonishing cyclops ( to be specific the first 24 issues of astonishing X-Men by josh whedon and john cassaday.)

• Jubilee's current run design (X-Men from the ashes)

Damn, just looked up that Jubilee design and it really is excellent!

Magik is great. Love her look in general.

When I think about X-Men, I think of Jim Lee. His artwork led to the resurgence of the X-Men during the 90s. His story is incredible. He created the design of Gambit and the Japanese look of Psylocke. He was also one of the founding members of Image comics, one of the coolest independent comic studios during the 90s.

It's the default, but 90's Gambit's costume is cool and classic

Also shoutout to Psylocke, my favorite character

Ah yes, there's Uncanny X-Men, Astonishing X-Men, and Ultimate X-Men, but none are more iconic than the all-time best seller, Bankruptcy X-Men. Everyone had at least one copy of that one issue, and most stopped buying the rest after that, and that's why Marvel sold the rights to practically everything.

These days, when I think Jim Lee, I think DC Comics, since he is the head of it now. But yes, he was one of the major forces in comics in the 90s, and hasn't stopped being one.

I really fell out of the comic book scene after the late 90's but I'm glad to hear he is still respected in the industry. He's one of my idols. I loved everything coming out of Image comics, even if it was mostly a lot of 90's clichés.

I like PSYLOCKE the most.
Honestly, I also really like AOA Cyclops.

Age of Apocalypse
Omega Red
Sabretooth
Yellow/Brown Wolverine
Gambit
ArchAngel(Apocalypse make-over)
Cable
Bishop

Some favorites:
  • Omega Red: A character that could only be made in the 90s, and yet unlike most other such characters, actually looks good. Stream-lined instead of overdesigned like a lot of contemporaries, with a visually simple yet effect power set.
  • Gambit: Like combining a Jack Kirby character with elements of John Constantine. (Marvel truly outdoes DC at stealing ideas from the competition.)
  • Sentinels: Kind of silly (in its very Jack Kirby design), but also scary when you consider the size difference against the heroes. It grows on you as you realize how intimidating they are.
  • Rogue: You know why. 90s version is the preferred one.
  • Storm: Ditto. But also, she has the most unique costume of the mainstays, with her cape and silver/black color scheme.
  • Jubilee: So bad she comes around to good in her overboard design that is seemingly meant to cure people of 80s nostalgia. Every attempt to give her a new costume looks horrible, and every return to the original costume is celebrated despite what it is.
