Me personally....first psx Spider-man game. Sure it has bad controls and is outdated, but god it was awesome back in the day. Also first to introduce Carnage Ock, before symbiotic started to infect villians.

Best game though...the ps4/5 Spider-man. If you want to make a great superhero game....copy the Batman Arkham games. It worked perfectly

I like the game in general but especially I liked to collect comic book. I remember I hoped it would unlock a whole comic issue to read but I don't remember if it was only limited to collecting cover of issues: https://retrogametalk.com/repository/psx-iso/spider-man-usa/

I like comic style, IMO it has great visuals and fun gameplay: https://retrogametalk.com/repository/ps2-iso/ultimate-spider-man-usa/

The other is either The Amazing Spider-Man 1 or 2, I remember a Spider-Man game on PC that, despite you finished the game it had random encounters system in open world gamemap that allowed you to take care of crimes and in general helping people out. I remember playing the game 5 minutes at once like that while I took break from studying for my final exams lol.

I have no interest in other Spider-Man games because I'm not a fan or anything; I had my Spider-Man fun, so the games I played was more than enough.

SM2 Enter Electro from PS1 have a special place in my heart. I love Ultimate Spiderman from PS2. If it comes to Insomniac SM games I dont like them especially. All those was ok but peak is Miles Morales. After replaying Batman Arkham games in this year I must say Batman games in comparison to Insomniac SM games are the guy she tells you not to worry about.

I checked these new Spider-Man games, and honestly I just saw games that's like The Amazing Spider-Man but targets little kids more and they tried to make the games "artistic gymnastic simulator" as if it's what Spider-Man should be lol.

I watched a gameplay, the player kid make Spider-Man spin in a very unnecessary way, seems more like a Tony Hawk game insane tricks lol and he was just "wow so cool". The Spider-Man I knew from comics was all about an ordinary poor guy who is mutated and he being Spider-Man because in the era he lived naturally not many cops around, not many ways to be aware of which crime may be happening, and then other mutants can be friend or foe which even army hardly can deals with them so it made sense how the whole story is and why Peter feels more like a "concerned citizen" than a "super hero" generic BS that's Americans love about anymore.

Now they twisted this realism into cartoon kid logic of "damn it's so cool to just fill the whole city with spider webs and just spin in the air" BS lol. Peter Parker, being Spider-Man was about a concerned citizen who put his power into good use because he would feel guilty not using the power for greater good because he is really needed, and then his struggle to protect people in his life and finding ways to keep reparing his spider-web gadget and costume with little economical opportunities he can find. But new Spider-Man games are more about "hell yeah it's nice to be a mutant, let's enjoy being a super hero and reduce crime rates wowowow deeeez nuts" lololol.

So in the end they butchered the Spider-Man philosophy of "you don't have to be actually a mutant to be concerned citizen, you don't need to be super hero to wanna help your people, all you need is a care and wish to do" because Peter Parker is a mutant but the way he made himself inventions to deal with criminals and other mutants made it clear no one needs extraordinary power to just protect their people. We all read the comics and noticed how Spider-Man's mutant powers most of the time was not enough. He was more like an ordinary person with more extraordinary strength, spider sense and spider abilities that was not enough much. Now this philosophy replaced with new generation "awww yeah, I have the power!! Imma super hero babe. now criminals, you are not even popular. no one support you so do you think you can match against me" logic of how social media is now and how the whole character twisted in new generation society.

As a resident Marvel game aficionado/weirdo, it's finally a thread for me!

Objectively, I think the first Insomniac PS4 game is the best Spider-Man game now. It's the perfect combination of all the different parts a Spidey game needs. Its got the physics based webswinging, it's got the combat, the constantly down on his luck Peter Parker, the friendly neighbourhood aspect of Spider-Man; it's got the suits that I spend far too long obsessing over. There's totally valid criticisms of it and I have a few, but I think it's undeniable that it's the most fully realized Spider-Man simulator, on an objective level. Never played the second game, heard it wasn't as good; as soon as I found out that it was all about the exact same symbiote/Venom storyline, I was out.

Shattered Dimensions is also pretty peak, it's a great 3D beat em up. It's a shame it's relatively hard to emulate and it never got re-released on anything; I'd kill for a Shattered Dimensions/Edge of Time remaster but it seems very unlikely. Loved how each of the Spider-Men felt entirely unique from one another.

The SegaCD Amazing Spider-Man Vs. Kingpin is I think the best retro 2D Spidey game. I played it for my Marvel article here and it actually surprised the hell out of me as I went in with no expectations at all. It's a spectacular 2D brawler, really recommend it.

And of course, me beloved; PS1 Spider-Man. Subjectively, this is one of the greats but that's entirely personal opinion. It was I think the first game that attempted to fully capture and realize Spidey and pulled it off. Multiple villains, web swinging traversal, combat, stealth, a lot of different suits I also obsessed over, cameo appearances; for its time it was unbeatable. It was also the first one that felt like it was made by fans and people who cared; there's plenty of interviews you can find from the Neversoft devs where they go into exquisite detail about how much research they did, and how they all loved making it. It still holds a incredibly special place in my Spidey fan heart, but like a few people have already said it has not aged the best.

I don't mean to say "you are wrong" but did you play The Amazing Spider-Man 1 or 2? I think the game is a great spidey simulator that doesn't seem much different than the new spider man games. If you played the games I would like to read what you think about them.

I checked some videos and how their random encounters are: It seems the new spidey games don't have much variety than The Amazing Spider-Man. Are The Amazing Spider-Man games the only amazing spidey game??? lol

I checked all the unlockable costumes for spidey. On that new spidey games yeah it has more content. But Amazing Spidey games have decent costumes too that are few yet "more than enough" for me. For example: https://amazingspiderman.fandom.com/wiki/Skins. Sometimes what matters is the quality and/or usefulness, not quantity.

Long story short, new spidey games are technically a better game. Animations are more fluid. But then in the context of how games are, the sense of spidey simulation doesn't seem more variant than The Amazing Spider-Man. Perhaps new spidey games are "bad" due to forced stealth mission when I don't remember such missions in The Amazing Spider-Man. I think those who didn't like the new games may like The Amazing Spider-Man more.

did you play The Amazing Spider-Man 1 or 2?
I played 2 for a good amount of time, I never played it all the way through or anything though. It was a decent game for sure, but I remember feeling like it was lacking something and that it was kind of jank. I think I'd played Insomniac Spider-Man before it, so maybe it was just some bias. I agree with you about the random crimes in Insomniac not having much variety, that is one of my complaints about the game.

Spiderman 2 based on the Toby movies for PS2, Gcube, and Xbox. I sunk an ungodly amount of time into that one. Had plenty of collectables, the move sets were fun and I enjoyed trying to achieve new records (highest drop, fastest speed, etc.). And it had the pizza delivery game~

Right now, I gotta say it's Web of Shadows on the DS. I won't really say it's better than the mainline version of WoS or the insomniac games, but it's deffo hella interesting to me.

It's a 2D platformer brawler in a sort of metroidvania style. It ain't really a big sprawling map like Symphony of the Night or whatever, it's actually quite linear all things considered. The web swinging feels nice. The combat is actually pretty varied, giving you unique movesets for both red and black suits that you can switch between like the main game. Heck, it even goes the extra mile and gives you a DMC style meter, that only fills up if you use varied moves in your combo. The animations are really good too. They can't just recycle animations from the main game because of how different the 3D models are, so they went for a more expressive cartoon-y style.

It won't blow your mind or anything, but I can at least say it's better than the PS2/PSP versions.

Honestly Spider-man "the one we got on PS4 before PC got it" To me it the best one that makes me feel like im playing spider-man. Sadly they had to frack up spider-man 2.

Spidey PS4. The web swinging is so fun, and even if the combat is worse than Arkham (bringing this up because people love comparing it to that), just moving around more than makes up for it. It was an effortress 100% for me.
