What are some of the PS1 game worlds that you like the most? It could be based on worldbuilding, visuals, real world setting, anything that you look for in a world.

For visuals I'd have to pick Colin McRae Rally 2.0, it does a great job at emulating real world rally tracks, each country is visually distinct and fairly faithful to how they look in real life. It feels immersive which is something I rarely get from PS1 games.

Worldbuilding is a tough one to pick, but I think FF7 takes the cake for me (I'm sure it's a popular answer for many others too lol). I fell in love with the world created in FF7, especially Midgar, but the other little towns scattered around the map are fantastic too. It feels like a living world shrunk down to fit on a PS1 disk, they put so much effort into making it believable.

Colin McRae 2.0 is such a great looking game. The 3D action games are my favorite, Tail Concerto, Mega Man Legends 1 and 2, Threads of Fate. Racers like Road Rash 3D also have these impressive and massive worlds. Worlds Scariest Police Chases is another one that looks stellar but you learn the ins-and-outs of the city and it becomes a joy to see familiar sites in different missions.

But do check out Road Rash 3D.

The first Parasite Eve had some pretty amazing NYC settings.
One of the settings is Central Park. I remember some time after playing the game, watching some movie where there's a scene in a well-known area of the park, and thinking "I've been there, I've walked under that bridge!" ::biggrin

Road Rash 3D is so cool, one of the few great motorcycle games on the console

I LOVE Parasite Eve, using NYC as the setting for that game was perfect

In my humble and gay opinion, i think this game had a very special atmospheric darkness. This, make me feel sad. I coudn't find better images but there's something really cool, and weird about this world.

star ocean second story
wild arms 1&2

lunar eternal blue and lunar silver star

wild arms 1 and 2
the world is really good made the town and almost all dungeons
they all fit into the game it not like some games where you enter a dungeon or town and say this town or dungeon do not feel it belong in this game because its so different
they did try to make everything feel like it belong in wild arms 1 and 2

did really like the fact that in wild arms 2 you only get direction and haft to find the place youself
and search for the hidden dungeons

I never got around to Wild Arms but the world seems so fascinating, I love when developers put effort into making the setting feel like it belongs

SaGa Frontier 2 world

I love the water color background and cozy vibes

Silent Hill, the game that perfected horror in videogames. What team silent did was perfect.

I think my favourites are Final Fantasy VII and IX. In the case of IX, the Mist Continent is so good and I still like the Outer Continent fine, but it's disappointingly barren. Thematically appropriate, but still.

I am bummed about not getting more of Mega Man Legends. That world seems cool, and I would've liked to explore it on games with better gameplay tbh. I still wish I had more of what I got.

Vagrant Story is so good, I struggle to get far in it but I enjoy it even when I'm dying over and over again
The key to success in Vagrant Story is the affinity of weapons depending on who you face, not to mention the management of chains for both attack and defense. Once you understand these mechanics the game becomes much easier!
