I started watching the Pokemon anime from the very first broadcast of the very first episode and only stopped tuning in around the time the movies were released — not because I wanted to, but because life had already started heading in a certain direction and the adventures of Pikachu and Ash simply didn't fit that madness anymore. It was sad, but so are many of the sacrifices one has to make - consciously or not - in order to grow up.
This doesn't mean that I'm completely clueless, however, as I jumped back in for a while during the Unova series (seasons 14-16) because people were talking very enthusiastically about them - marking the first time in literal decades that I had heard the show being discussed so passionately - and my younger brother had kept up with it longer than I had, watching up until the Battle Frontier arc.
So, yeah, not COMPLETELY clueless, but I'm definitely missing huge chunks of the story... And that's where you come in: I want you to 'school me' on any epic battles that I may have missed and that I could watch on their own, to try and scratch that ancient itch for Pokemon action that the games themselves aren't helping with anymore.
I will give you my top pick, too:
To fully appreciate the utter madness that was Ash vs Drake, you have to enter the mind frame of a little kid who had centered their life around dutifully watching the +100 episodes between the Indigo and Orange Islands seasons as if their life depended on it.
Seeing Ash take on such an overwhelming threat after all of that was genuinely exciting for all of us, and I remember no shortage of playground debates about what was gonna happen while waiting for both parts of the battle to finally air.
Looking back on it, it was probably the perfect time to stop watching, even if I didn't realize it at the time (better ending on a highlight than on a random episode!). But I have no doubt it has been topped since, probably multiple times.
Has it?
Damn, sorry for the text wall. Got a bit carried away ^^U!
