Filler is generally looked down upon, usually for understandable reasons, but sometimes some of those ”filler arcs” or episodes can be entertaining in their own right.

Do you have any examples of filler you like?

For me, I remember liking the part in early DBZ where little Gohan is training on his own in the wilderness. Particularly the episode with the old robot.

paranoia agent. it's 13 episodes, with about 3 episodes being filler, but they add quite a bit to the overall story; mainly by showing the effects of the story on the surround world and people in the background.

Outlaw Star, sure it's nothing special, but each one is a fun adventure that gave the viewers the insight on their world building, lores basically.

Like @Cu-Neo said, that arc was sensational, with over the top animation and all that. Bleach's filler is full of bangers though

I also love Dragon Ball Z filler, especially the movies like Broly ones, old and new

If the writing and story interlaces well and is really good, filler might be good. However since it's made up wholesale it means it's not canon, and unlikely to be referenced later. But i guess what's wrong with filler mostly is it drags on, and if i get exhausted from filler i probably won't finish the anime.

I suppose the most harmless fillers would be Beach or Hot Spring episodes, fan service and eye-candy, but i would wish it's labeled as much and kept separate. Slime Diaries comes to mind.

Actually Naruto's 'What's under Kakashi's mask?' episode was fun...

Something that might be fun (if it were ever done) would be a Naruto (young) short series where they are sucked into the modern world and trying to use ninjitsu to heat and serve fries and burgers and utterly failing, and another clan has taken over another chain restaurant across the way so they are fighting while delivering food 1950's-style rollerskating, or playing a game of D&D. But note on that, those are so far removed from normal it would be labeled as such and not slipped in to make it seem like it's official content between story arcs.

FMA was more than half filler (as the manga wasn't out so they made up the ending), and Inyuyasha I've heard is 200 episodes of filler. And it dragged on when i watched it back in 2010 or something.

Krillin: “you must be pretty darn sure we’re going to beat cell if we’re not doing anything to prepare for the tournament”
Goku: “these are precious times, krillin. Being together is everything. That’s all that matters to me right now”

DBZ had some really good filler episodes

Then he decided to throw a rock lmao

Won't Iie...not a fan of fillers. Not a fan of rewrites. Definitely not a fan of throwaway characters. Though, there are a couple series filler stuff I'm ok with, BUT NOT A FAN OF BAD FAN SERVICE.

Already been mentioned, but watching Goku and Piccolo try and take a driving test was so funny. Getting to see Piccolo in street clothes was amazing.

Lots of Dragon Ball representation here - I love to see it!

I watched Kai before Z, but even so I can agree about really enjoying Gohan’s training and the driving episode.

Usually I skip filler, but I do recall enjoying Kakashi's Anbu arc in Naruto Shippuden.

Fullmetal Alchemist 2003. A lot of the anime-original content in the first half really helps build up the characters more, especially for Maes Hughes, who we spend a lot more time with in '03 compared to Brotherhood.

Yeah early DBZ filler was so awesome. I especially love Gohan's bond with the old robot C-6. Watching it growing up, not knowing what filler was, I always thought Gohan's reaction to
Cell killing Android 16
was because he reminded him of C-6.

The Nozomi arc in Bleach mostly because a lot of very cool battles happen in that arc, the animation is really good and Nozomi is an interesting character.

I was actually coming to this thread to post about this.

Though I would also add the Zanpakuto Arc as well, but I definitely think Nozomi's arc is a bit more of a standout between the two.

One Piece's G-8 (Navarone) Arc is one of the best filler arcs I have seen, each member of their straw hat pirates gets their moment to shine, it fits nicely within the main story without creating any plot holes later; the main antagonist is a threat to the crew, not by being stronger or more powerful than them as most villains in One Piece; but by outsmarting them making them and making them have to actually plan their way out of the situation rather that fighting him directly.
Also, it actually builds up and fleshes out Usopp's character right before his character Arc in the Water 7 saga.
