But really, with the real shop closed down, it's great to be able to play titles you can't find physical (or that are way too expensive). Also, don't judge me, if were not for the cheats I would have never gone far in "The Legend Of Legacy", and I'm happy I could play it.

I have had a non-mod console for a long time and bought lots of physical and some digital too (Crimson Shroud, my first one), a couple of years ago I decided and tried the mod.

I love save backups. I don't like custom themes as they sometimes fuck with things. Injections are fun and there is something very entertaining about running PS1 games on a 3ds, but you need a New Nintendo 3ds model for that. Also, cheat features and save editors are a fantastic way to get around stuff that annoys you in 3DS games. They certainly cut down on the years of your life it would take to do everything in Hyrule Warriors.

I also just like not having to use my cartridges or open my actual 3DS games anymore. I can leave them on a shelf where they don't incur any wear and tear from constant use.

Frankly, I just love having the freedom to do whatever the fuck I want with my device. It's sad that you have to hack or mod so many systems to have that. I'm patiently waiting for the day that someone cracks the Switch 2, then I will finally buy one...but not a new one from Nintendo because fuck Nintendo

3DS has cool homebrew features:

- Once I broke my PC gamepad and then I learned I can use my 3DS as a PC gamepad. I also looked for if I can use me 3DS to play Zelda BOTW's specific shrines that require motion controller on CEMU because it's unplayable with traditional gamepad, keyboard, analog and mouse but I don't remember if I ever could find one for 3DS to use its motion feature. I remember I completed every shrine but I don't remember how exactly, it was troublesome to search the whole internet for it though.

- I also learned 3DS can be used as a "server". At the time I carried my 3DS around and I had to carry some files from my home to around work and stuff for file transfer, so I thought "why not use 3DS for it" right? I imagined it can be used as a storage device you can transmit files via an USB cable or something but I found something better!!! 3DS can host a server so you just enter the server via file browser of a PC and fetch the files in the 3DS!!! Cool huh? Technology is like a magic lol.

- Also at the time I was using 3DS to watch tv series and stuff during work, then I learned you can stream 3DS's video and audio wirelessly to a PC so you can watch it on a bigger screen. Am I a 3DS wizard or what? 3DS is like magic stone yo lol.

- And then I learned you can install Linux on 3DS, then I found "a way" to connect 3DS to an ATM and by using Linux I started to hack ATMs so now I'm so rich!!!! I'm Mr. Robot Watch Dogs or something lolol.

Genuinely, it’s learning the crazy stuff the 3DS has the power to run! It’s uniquely under powered, while also being a beast. Playing Half Life on a 3DS is just novel.


But, the actual best is Virtual Boy. Red Viper is the only way to play Virtual Boy for anybody. Accurate, has options to fix VB’s bigger issues, and is a great way to experience the homebrew and unreleased games scene for the system.

Artic base lets you stream your games to your pc via emulator and use the 3ds as a controller. Incredibly useful for longer game sessions and no save file transfer hassle.

Being able to play Japanese exclusive games. As a big fan of the Theatrhythm games, I always wanted to play the Dragon Quest one, but couldn't due to it being Japan exclusive. Now I can thanks to 3DS modding. Another Dragon Quest game that comes to mind, since the 3DS had a ton of Japan only ones, is the remake of the first Dragon Quest Monsters game. I remember finding out about it from a friend around the time it came out, and thought it looked cool, but, again, had no way to play it, until now. Even beyond the 3DS' own library, playing fan-translated games from retro consoles is awesome. It feels so natural.

I also recently discovered the 3DS can emulate PS1, which is just so insane to me. It doesn't even sound real when I say it, but, lo and behold, it is.

Only the New Nintendo 3DS models can do PS1, and it takes some fiddling around with the settings to get them just right. It's not as great as playing them on a PSP or Vita, but it's an incredible thing to behold on a 3DS. I first played Pepsiman on a 3ds. Dino Crisis and Tenchu were playable too from what I recall.

Being able to manage your saves, including transferring saves to/from physical cartridges. The custom themes are nice, being able to FTP files is nice. In the wake of Nintendo announcing Virtual Boy for Switch, I tried out the 3DS VB emulator, and it's a really neat experience (even if the games aren't..)

I've jailbroken a few of my systems, but honestly the 3DS feels the most user friendly in many ways.

I think the only work around was a program that sort of created a second user profile for those extra games and it let you switch between the two profiles. This is honestly why, as neat as VC injects are, I've mainly stuck with standalone emulators on the 3DS. It's just quicker to scroll through a list of games, than having to use a magnifying glass to find a specific one on my home screen. Unfortunately, it's a lot less whimsical. Even if my home screen would look like a nightmare, the prospect of having the fancy little VC graphic for my games is enticing.

Another thing is, I've heard that NSUI can be finicky with patched ROMs, and for me personally, those are the bulk of the games on my SD card, so that's another reason why I haven't bothered with it. But honestly, at the end of the day, you can do whatever works for you, and that's what's great about modding the system.

As for loading, mine takes about 17 seconds to turn on with a 128gb MicroSD. All things considered, that isn't bad at all. I do have a fair amount of space still on it, though, I can imagine it may slow down the more games I add. Worth mentioning that 128gb is the recommended max. I've seen a lot of people report that even 256gb takes an excruciatingly long amount of time to load. But honestly? Unless you want to download every single game on the 3DS, 128gb is more than enough.

Like you said, all minor issues that can easily be circumvented. You have a LOT of freedom with this system.
