As an anapologitic Naruto fan I just can't choose between these two aka the good old Ultimate Ninja games. UN5 obviously has more content and more fighters, seeing how the story mode in UN4 caps at around episode 16 of the show, with some characters not having their debut until after episode 30, whereas UN5 goes all the way up to episode 50-ish, also introducing the concept of characters combining their jutsu techniques.

UN4 however, apart from being dubbed in English (5 never released in the States so it wasn't dubbed), has a special place in my heart. It was the first piece of Shippuden media I ever owned, and I remember browsing my local media store and happening upon this gem just sitting there on the PS2 shelf for a measly 250DKK, which was a no brainer for me and I immediately took it home and played it.

But not only that, UN4 is also one of those seemingly rare occurences of telling an original story, or rather, the prologue opens with an original story - because they knew the rest of the game would be too short if it only ran for 16 episodes worth of content - and I really liked that original story. So there's that.

So yeah, while 5 has more content and is undoubtedly the better product, 4 is special to me.

Capcom vs SNK 2 always felt to me like it was the swansong of 2D fighting games.
Nothing since it was released has reached the same heights to me.

What are some of the best games to hit the Fighting Game genre in your opinion? What makes them so special?

here are some of mine::megadancebaby

Probably my favorite fighter is between Street Fighter III Third Strike and Street Fighter 6. But I REALLY want to play a ton more of the genre! I’ve been heading down the Capcom rabbit hole, hoping I can do the SNK one soon, and Mortal Kombat X is the other game I would list here.

Plenty already mentioned from SF series to KOF, Darkstalkers, VF, FatalFury, LB, Rival Schools, SAMSHO, Tekken, VS series, FV, Cyberbots+TechRomancer, GG I will add Psychic Force series (ARC/PS/DC) -

I'm definitely not diehard enough with fighting games to be qualified to just an objective best, but I've always been a huge fan of Mortal Kombat. But to name some of my absolute favorites...

Mortal Kombat Trilogy
Mortal Kombat 2011
SoulCalibur (most entries)
Smash Bros. series
Dark Rift
Bloody Roar series
Tekken 3
Dead or Alive series
DBZ Sparking series
Mace: The Dark Ages
Killer Instinct series

I been playing Tekken 3 lately and it's giving me Enter the Dragon vibes

The best Mortal Kombat game imo

Due to the roster of characters and being the best MK game on SNES even though I'm not good at this game like I used to

I've loved the Soul Calibur games since Soul Blade.

I missed this thread earlier! Fighting games are probably my favorite genre.

I’d definitely say that Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 are my favorite fighting games.

Urien in 3S with Aegis Reflector has so much nuance in regards to unblockable setups and combo routes. The parry system’s added red parry mechanics and removal of the parry screen flash from New Generation and Second Impact were very much appreciated, making the game much easier on the eyes compared to the earlier versions of SF3.

The constant guessing in the heat of the moment with no downtime during a match makes 3S a game I come back to monthly, at the very least.

Mvc2 features one of the strongest rosters in fighting game history. Delayed Hyper Combos, Snapbacks and 3 different assist options per character makes Marvel 2 a lab monster’s dream game. Not to mention the high skill ceiling found in the top tier characters. I still am amazed at what I see from players like Romneto and Khaos, who have kept the community alive all these years later.

Marvel 2 is a game of stage control. It’s chaotic speed and flight-focused top tiers set the game apart from its contemporaries.

For Marvel 2, I play Magneto, Storm, Sentinel in serious games. I play Charlie, Akuma and Captain Commando for more casual matches. Like 3S, I go back to Marvel 2 very frequently.

Other fighting games I enjoy include but are certainly not limited to:

Guilty Gear Accent Core +R
Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3
Ultra Street Fighter IV
Tekken Series
Soul Calibur 2
Blazblue Central Fiction
Mortal Kombat 9 and X
Street Fighter Alpha 2+3
