Secret Agent (along with Sensible Soccer and Carmen San Diego) was the game that turned me into a PC gamer, and also the one game for which I learned how to use the DOS command line.

Which of their amazing games is your favorite?

If I remember correctly, Apogee was only a publisher, not a developer, so the content and quality of their games was kinda variable.

The only Apogee game I really remember playing was "Rise of the Triad" back in the relatively early PC-CD ROM era.
It was a quirky doom/wolfenstein clone, which was a bit weird, but not an entirely bad game (for it's day).

Really good point, man. I had forgotten that they were on an "LJN" path regarding their games.

I remember RotT! I think I downloaded it during the retro-FPS "boom" of the mid-aughts. I liked it on the same vein I liked "Redneck Rampage" and "Shadow Warrior"... which is to say that I had some fun with it.

When I think of Apogee, I recall when I first played Duke Nukem 1 and 2 at an office computer when my Dad worked at a printing press. I enjoyed it but I dont think I got very far.

I also played a Commander Keen demo a lot on our old 386, which didn't have a soundcard, so we were stuck with the minimum beeps and boops for sound effects and no music.

Playing PC platformers/sidescrollers on a keyboard was a test of perseverance to say the least!

I Ioved your post, dude.

Playing Commander Keen on a friend's 486 was the literal definition of joy for us at the time. His computer (won on a raffle) also didn't have a soundcard, but I think that enhanced the experience.

We also played unprecedented amounts of Wolfenstein 3D.

Ah I forgot Wolfenstein was published by Apogee and not ID! Yes I played a fair share of that too on our 386. And that reminds me of the period in my youth that playing any of the early FPS games in full screen ratio was a luxury ?
Most times I had to change the viewport down to like 50% in the graphics settings in order to get a decent frame rate. My young self didn't understand why that was the case, but I do recall being annoyed and thinking "why can't they just make it smooth in full screen?". I already had the "lazy devs" misconception haha
Also, due to lack of a dedicated sound card, I missed out on the music and digitized voices in Wolf3D. So strictly beeps and boops experience for me, which kinda gave it an arcade vibe.

Funny enough, I recently bought the Commander Keen Complete Pack on Steam and had to change the sound options to disable all the extra sound options so I could relive that nostalgic experience. It just wasn't the same otherwise ?

I'm actually super attached to the PC speakers as well. That's why I still try to get it going while playing Maniac Mansion, Wolfenstein 3D, Secret Agent, Halloween Harry and Stunts, just to name a few. It's amazing how such a tiny thing can become such an essential part of the experience.

PS: I never really left the screen shrinking behind... still did it for Life Is Strange XD
