i have actually not played this but it looks cool! is it hard?Sol-Deace for me.
It's pretty easy to start off, then it gets Colossus's boulders hard XDi have actually not played this but it looks cool! is it hard?
also i am now thinking that panorama cotton isnt really a shmup but a rail shooter...
but i will count it because i love cotton ww
i will have to give it a try then! It's pretty easy to start off, then it gets Colossus's boulders hard XD
I love this topic so much - the Cotton series is so cozy to me!not seeing a lot of love for sega in this thread, so lets talk games!
what is everyones fave shmup on megadrive?
mine is probs panorama cotton :3
I would like Panorama Cotton if the MD was actually able to handle its graphical effects but much like many other overly ambitious titles from the era, it just hurts my eyes.not seeing a lot of love for sega in this thread, so lets talk games!

it is pretty wild and all over the place, but its so pretty and impressive for the time! :3I would like Panorama Cotton if the MD was actually able to handle its graphical effects but much like many other overly ambitious titles from the era, it just hurts my eyes.
I agree with your choices. I too appreciated X Ranger quite a bit, which for the time was a rather unusual and if you will also bold shmup. There was none of the frenzy of titles in the same genre and indeed, breaks were sometimes mandatory to recharge shields.Shmup was the shit in the 80s and 90s (even though I wasn't even born in those years)
But man it was such a simple, but fun concept (just shoot every last one of them, that's my kind of fun).
For example (like the guy above me said), Greylancer, Darius, Twinkle Tale, Thunder Force series, Undead Line and Ranger X.
Most of these games just look so sooooo good for it's time, you can tell Sega was really trying to beat Nintendo (they did for awhile)
I agree that it's faux Super Scaler-like effects are impressive, at the very least. There's a game made by HAL on the SNES that has similar albeit simpler effects.it is pretty wild and all over the place, but its so pretty and impressive for the time! :3
i havent played the remake to see if it runs better tho, could be worth a shot
Oh dear is it just me or are these images not available anymore?I kinda like Steel Empire. Although tbh it's more the concept and aesthetic I like rather than the game itself (it's way too hard for someone who sucks at shooters as much as me).
It's basically inspired by Jules Verne-esque steam punk aviation.
There's even a 2018 remake available on Steam:

I like Zero Wing's OST but its gameplay is a bit... generic. For me it's a tossup between Gaiares, Thunder Force IV and Zero Wing (and no, not for the translation, i legitimately like the game, though I've never beaten it legitimately).
Shmup's in general are unique in that no single game could be considered amazing by everyone, for example i like gekirindan, esp ra de and espgaluda, but my favorite style is side scroller types instead of top down, so it's one of those things that's just impossible to get everyone to agree on.I like Zero Wing's OST but its gameplay is a bit... generic.
I think as a Shmup I preferred Gley Lancer.
