With the release of the remake of Fatal Frame II / Project Zero II, I decided to play the PlayStation 2 version again. It ran really well on PCSX2, especially with the Undub version. I think it’s a shame that the Project Zero series didn’t catch on as much as Silent Hill or Resident Evil. When I first played this installment, I found it really scary; of course, if you play it now after getting used to horror games, you’re not as easily spooked anymore. I still find the atmosphere in this installment pretty dark and mysterious. The story is very tragic, as is the canon ending. How did you like this Fatal Frame game, and have you played or finished the remake that was recently released?

I haven't played either of them yet; I'm still making time to play the original version, which I find interesting for taking pictures of spirits. I'll play the well-known spooky version next month.

Fatal Frame is my second favorite horror franchise in videogames, only surpassed by Silent Hill; I have played all games. Indeed it has an excellent atmosphere and it's really scary, I just love it. And yes it's a shame it's not popular, but that's basically because is a really scary game, and most of people doesn't like to be scared or just can't handle it, otherwise, Silent Hill and fatal frame would have their deserved place.

I would love to play the remake, but I have no a PS5 and my PC is a potato, so I can't play it

I played the PS2 version thoroughly long ago and I only wished it had the happier endings of the XBox one.

I understand the remake has even better endings.

I wished they'd remake Fatal Frame 1 instead since there was glitch that prevented that version from playing properly on an Asian PS2 which was what I had. The really bad thing about that glitch was that it only happened at the end which rendered all of your playtime wasted. I bought the original U.S. PS2 disk and was very miffed when it happened to me.

Despite the remakes, I still have a soft spot for the original PS2 version. Still holds up today in my opinion.

I love when remakes like this come out because it makes me revisit the original immediately.
The thing about Fatal Frame 1 being based on a True Story and the rumors about the Himuro Mansion being a real place were crazy back in the day. I heard grapevine style from a friend that the first Fatal Frame was cursed or something. I don't remember all of the details but basically my friend had been told by someone never to play that game because it was all real and you could be haunted or cursed. Now I know better, heh heh, maybe. Though it's crazy to think about the fact that those kind of rumors were floating around back then and keeping people from playing an amazing horror game. On a related side note I recently started reading the translation (my Kanji is not good enough yet.) of the novelization. "Zero: A Curse Only Affecting Girls".

I played the Trilogy of the Fatal Frame series.
The first Fatal Frame I played Is Fatal Frame 2. And then after I finished playing Fatal Frame 2, I spot Fatal Frame in the game store by chance I bought it and played it immediately then Fatal Frame 3 the same store. Yeah so I got a great memories on this game. Thanks for sharing.::thank-you

I played Fatal Frame I when it came out (where I live it was in 2002), and I shitted my pants so many times and so hard that I never finished it until a few years ago, through emulation. I remember particularly the graphics and sound design impressing me greatly. Nowadays, as an adult, I loved how distinctly japanese the series is (tone, pace, atmosphere, setting), in contrast to SH y RE.

They are still very good, but for people that grew up with over the shoulder and action focused horror, they might not be captivating. Perhaps for those that were raised by Amnesia games, less power and non-action oriented, it could be more attractive.
