Extremely Weird And Obscure Games

Heard its tedious as heck.

First time I see the full cover art sheeesh psychotic.

I just want to point out to be careful with the term "jap" because it's seen as kinda offensive for many Japanese people. I made this mistake before and was embarrassed publicly lol
I had no idea. It makes sense though. Thanks for sharing.

To add to the list though, A Rock Star Ate My Hamster:

You have to put together a band and manage them in order to get an album to go platinum. It's both weird and obscure.

And for something REALLY obscure and also a bit weird, look no further than Pocket Runner aka 포켓 런너 (also sometimes known as 恰哥與肥佬 which I think loosely translates to Chago and the Fat Man):

It's so obscure, that there's almost no information about it on the internet (to the point where someone was trying to tell me that it was a DOS game based on the limited info they found, despite the fact that I literally have the game, and it's very clearly a Windows Executable).
And what other game can you think of, where gorillas peeing is a level hazard, and a guy makes boxes appear and disappear by pulling his pants down and sticking his butt out.

Both of those are somewhat fun games too. :)

This game treads the line between the kind of game you'd look at and believe was real, and one of the games that was faked as a gag in early Homestuck.
Lol, it really does look like a fake game, and it doesn't help that it's an exclusive for the gameboy color of all consoles

Planet Laika is definitely one of the best psychological horror games I've ever played in my entire life, up there with Silent Hill 2 as my favorite horror game of all time. Amazing story and fascinating psychological themes, exploring delicate topics such as neurodivergence and trauma (such as Dissociative identity disorder (DID) and Childhood trauma, and also Psychological/Mental/Physical/Sexual abuse), It's definitely one of the most impactful experiences I've had with a piece of media, I literally cried while playing. It's not for everyone as it can be incredibly disturbing and upsetting, But it's also incredibly beautiful, powerful and cathartic.

I think a lot of the most groundbreaking and innovative games are ones that get largely overlooked and become obscure. I' Robot and the Star Cruiser series immediately come to mind.

I'robot came out in 1983/84 and had fully shaded 3D polygon graphics, and camera controls as well as really unique puzzle action gameplay that was unlike anything else at the time. It didn't do well though because the machines were faulty, it was too confusing, and this weird Doodle side game.

Star Cruiser is a Japanese FPS series with rpg elements and fleshed out storylines. The games predate Wolfenstein 3D. They have corridor ground sections like in a traditional fps and free roam space flight elements where you can fly around the solar system and enter planets. I dont know any other games at least at the time that combined the two.

Unreal World is one of the best survival games in existence, its not only a pioneer of the genre (coming out in 1992), its still being updated.

And, most of the Sim games early Maxis did are massively innovative, which was a flame EA murdered.

SimEarth and SimAnt were amazing for their time.

Dragon Slayer: Largely forgotten as one of the earliest action RPG series. There were spin-off games (Legend of Heroes series), with spin-offs to the spin-off (Trails series) that also got spin offs, but the original series has been mostly forgotten, mostly in favor of the Trails series.
