What piece of Fiction that is currently in Public Domain or will become Public Domain has you Excited so something that looses its copyright so to say making you able to produce something with the Fictional World and Characters to your liking and that completely legal.
And please stay realistic so no Pokemon as its Obvious that it will likely never enter Public Domain.
For me Personally I find it good that Wizard of Oz is Public domain to my knowledge (The Books) and can be freely used unlike the Movie who is still copyrighted but I read somewhere even the Movie will become public domain 2030ish or something.
So what are you excited about to be able to use from known fiction ?

In 9 more years, the "Wizard of Oz" movie will be in the public domain.
I can't wait the Books already give ya enough to work with but the Movie only Improves upon that.
I am very curious on what creative minds will create with such a rich fictional world when all the works fall into the Public Domain.

They will make bad horror movies. Really bad horror movies. Not even fun kind of bad, just bad bad
I can't deny that this is probably what some folks will do,yet I remain hopeful for some gems that will be created maybe something similar to Wizard of Oz for the NDS or a cool Story in that Universe the human mind is capable to immense degeneracy yet it is also able to create Impressive works of Art and Masterpieces and those are what I hope for.
If Modding and Romhacking proves one thing is is that Humans creativity can archive great things

Honestly i am expecting Disney to fall into Bankrupcy so we can use their B&W stuff freely, a look at Deviantart will make you realize fanartists has more creativity for Oswald and Co. than their own fucking owners

That's my only gripe about the public domain.

I could imagine that them no longer having copyrights would make a lot of people to unleash their creativity just to witness a mediocre/bad horror movie inspired by them...

Why is that? Sounds like they are opportunistic people that try to get easy money than anything else.

Somehow I feel like more stupid stuff is being made than masterpieces as we could see a century ago.

Hopefully I will live to see the day when the classic Sonic games become public domain.
I wish but those companies rather see there Games rot than to give it for free. But maybe in the future who knows

Misread the title as "excrement".
...I'll see myself out.

Bendy and the Ink Machine pretty much shows that creativity of Disney fans without ever using their IP.

The creators of the character are still alive and usually it's 50 - 70 years after the death so maybe not.

Especially since it would be Classic Sonic, not Modern.

Rubberhose era was a style, not something invented by Disney.

Cuphead managed to be unique enough as well.

I'd encourage creators to try making their own character over relying on the public domain.

I'm not sure how the law works but can you get money from something from the public domain even if you've altered it a bit?

Oh I'm aware. It was just the first example that came to mind lol.

Besides, I think the general plot of "creation becomes bigger than its creator whilst another person tries to take the creator's work" –even loosely–is like an allegory for Walt, Oswald and Universal Studios.

The copyright belongs to a corporation, and corporate copyright in the US lasts for 95 years from the creation of the work.
