I.e, recording you and your friends being goofy and sort of going around your daily lives in the most informal style possible.

I can't say I have, but I rather enjoy watching decades-old videos of exactly that, uploaded in glorious, choppy 360p raw footage or those elusive 480p "high definition" gems.

What about you?

I mean...
Music videos and Porn, what else is it good for?

I'd like to see some of those videos you enjoy watching.

I do have a softspot for early 2010 AVGN clones and parodies. The clones are fun to watch because you get these nerds captured in time, trying to put on a show for each other. It's funny and very endearing.

This video is one of my favorites and it's an ironic parody. It's not endearing but I do think it's pleasantly nostalgic as well as friggin hilharious

i think everyone kinda has in some form or another. thats how everyone always starts off if theyre making videos and stuff

My stuff is probably has too many bells and whistles to fall into that category, but I try my best to make videos with sincerity and love.

I mean stuff like this:

Just two friends, talking to their crappy camera til the end of time.

Or like this:

Something who's only audience is itself.

Everything feels too polished and structured these days, when the idea behind YouTube was to take video-making to wild and amateurish hands.

Me too! Sadly, one of my favorites (because the quality was precisely the kind of atrocious that made it worthwhile) was either wiped off the platform or deleted by its owner. Such a shame.

Hmmmm i guess it shows how different our exposure to YouTube can be, cuz in the 2000s I used YouTube to watch flash animations (usually reuploaded from new grounds)

One example would be “Pokémon unseen episode”
In it, ash catches a bear then the bear tears him apart and pikachu and Krillin shows up.
I did not make that up….

Gameplay guides were also becoming pretty prominent, I watched a ton of gta guides with cheats, Easter eggs and tips n tricks like this. They exposed me to a ton of great music too.

I wound occasionally also use YouTube to see ppv highlights i couldn’t on tv, usually uploaded in 144p resolution

That about sums it up really. Flash animation, gta and wrestling. Was quite a good life back then, YouTube worked both as a supplementary and occasional substitute for TV. (These days though i prefer radio or free tv)

No never I watch people I never upload shit my self I done 1 video of gameplay on demo of a game just to share with my 1 friend and you guys on RGT not that many people here even cared so yeah I made a video for 1 person to see.

Bleh

18 years...

Nowdays I use YouTube for boring educational purposes, like revising my driving theory and knowledge.

Weird to think that many of those videos became lost media, even if they're still avaliable there.

Way back when I made let's plays, some with friends, but nothing like the whole "being goofy and sort of going around your daily life" vein. Never really had anything interesting enough going on nor a camera for it. Honestly though? That's probably for the best.

Watching videos in 480p only is impossible for me, it does not fit my detail requirements as I watch mainly tutorials and reviews and I need to see quite the detail in the screen because there are small components or text that needs to be seen or written. I also watch bird videos and that needs high level of detail.

I would say watching 480p videos are videos that have no screen detail importance.

For me, Youtube is a complementary source of information that is far from being a site for spending time watching nonsense. I understand funny and hilarious stuff is very appealing to many, but not to me.

that stuff has moved to Instagram / whatsapp. youtube now is like... some kind of tv service for ultra specific interests. whatever you are interested in - there is a channel or 100 for it - of varying degrees of professionalism

Yeah.

And, like someone else said, there are real risks to showing your face/school/street nowadays that simply weren't a thing back then.

Nah, it is just my gaming white noise or my personal cinema

So YouTube algorithm randomly recommended me a dumb video of monkey island 2 from 18 years ago. I really enjoyed the video as well as the different vibe in the comments section from 2008

you may not like it, but this is peak youtube

That would be fun if the online space wasn’t so crowded. & that being seen usually has annoying consequences.

I’ve never uploaded personal videos of myself and friends or anything but I used to do AMVs (anime music videos). That took forever but it was fun. I would download anime clips on either Bearshare or Limewire and then its use a media program and put all these clips together in a particular way then i would get rid of the clip sounds and add music. I sometimes played with the clip sounds and would find a good moment in the song to turn up the clip sound as well to play simultaneously.
