Ever used the link cable?

I was planning on getting one for the GBA just to transfer my Chao from SADX to SA2B, since I play on PC now I'll likely never end up doing this.

I was there when the magic of the link cable was written into reality. Pokemon was a treat even when trading with yourself.

Oh for sure, I had an off brand purple one, would use it to play pokemon silver/gold with friends in school. One I always wanted to try out was the one for the PS1, being able to play C&C against each other would have blown our tiny minds.

I sure did, it was a great thing to use but I used it only really for Pokémon. I even had the transfer pack so I could play them on the N64

My older brother and I had a few over time and even got to use it with some friends. As much as online can be such a help for gaming little touches like that have gotten lost over time. It did suck having to buy a cable, but I would rather own a cable than a monthly or yearly sub to a bank app for my video game creatures. I had a gamecube, but I never got to play with the cable magic for it.

Yes for Pokémon Blue and Power Quest. Around those years I also had a Bandai Digivice I would link up to fight against my friends in school.

I gotta admit... I never knew anyone who had a Gameboy, but the idea of trading Pokemon (or even multiplaying on a portable devise) seemed incredibly cool to me.

Ever got to use the little cable?
When I was a kid I traded Pokemon with some other kids at the after school program in order to get Machamp and Gengar. It felt like magic, in my head I imagined the Pokemon being sent through the cable like how it showed. I didn't own one myself but man did it just blow my mind.

No. My brother did though.... and it didn't work half the time.

No that's misleading... The link (cable) worked fine. But them trading pokemon would fail because version differences, where skill X or pokemon Y wasn't on the other system so trade failed...

It’s possible to recreate the link cable experience via emulation however I’ve always wanted to experience it with real hardware. Unfortunately even though is somewhat undermined by not only how easy it is to hack devices, but even Nintendo themselves undermined the experience by making it really easy to use the “trade” service on your phone or switch to get really powerful Pokémon before you’re supposed. I was able to obtain gen 8’s legendaries on an unfinished shield playthrough for example. @Waffles

Yeah, same.

Although it WAS really funny duking it out through No$GBC, TGBDual and VBA.

.. Just had to respond to this thread. Yes! If you were in holiday in any family orientated resort in the 90s there was a ton of kids with gameboys, german, french, spanish, english, etc. All playing pokémon. I got to use it for more than a few trades. It was a fun little novelty to share pokémon. In particular I remember this one german kid called Lukas on my holiday to Corfu that had a ton of Mews he was just handing out, I have no idea how he had them, I don't think you can breed legendaries.

It makes me miss promotional events where they would actually hand out rare stuff before everything became DLC. It was just cool. Also a little off topic but does anyone remember gameshark?

Thank you for sharing! That was amazing :)

I used to LOOOOVE GameShark! Looking up codes became my chief gaming-related activity for a while. It's just too bad that I can no longer use mine.

Oh! Anytime! The post brought up memories of us all sat around on the beach chairs by the pool swapping stuff, quite literally a small crowd of children just trading pokémon while the adults played water polo. Fun times. I had a game shark and an action replay iirc, a lot of ways to do wacky things. Or some times just brick your save. I felt like my experience was always my games crashing or wildly bugging out.

You can have the consoles, even streetpass...
but can I find someone with another console?.
in my case, it's a totally different story (and I'm not exactly someone who lives under a rock).
Told to be truth, I am satisfied and done with having achieved the first 151 pocket monsters...
