(For those who don't know: A "Post-It" is a sticky piece of paper - usually yellow - that you write important notes on and then paste somewhere visible as to not lose sight of that info. They are honestly pretty cool).

When I was a kid, I used to follow my dad around like an adorable little shadow — whatever he did, I immediately deemed "the coolest thing ever" and wanted in on.

Because of the very nature of his job, my dad had dozens of these little notes pasted all around his home office for quick access, papering everything from his monitor to the bulletin board.

And, naturally, I used to steal them just so I could write random crap (like cheat codes!) on them.

This was short-lived for a couple of reasons:

First of all: my little office supply stealing raid got so bad that my dad started using digital Post-its instead through a program that cluttered his virtual desktop with that crap instead of the real one. Because he had no further use for the real thing, he handed the rest to me to play with, which immediately made them less cool.

Second: My sister didn't appreciate me sticking those to every surface on our shared, sovereign space (the TV was a particularly contested spot) and would regularly tear them down, which just led to both of us digging in and refusing to compromise until mom had to become a mediator.

And thirdly... Because me being me (and with the added trouble of being single-digits me) I used to write EVERYTHING in those and for everyone to see, including sensitive information and secrets... You can see why this was a problem.

Still, it was fun and a version of this thing still survives in my household in the form of a magnetic notepad stuck to the fridge.

Ever used these (or some variation of them) yourself?

I'm not a fan of Post-its. These pieces of paper fells easily and you can look at them only where you paste them. I prefer to write things down in my pocket notebook, so i can refer to them whenever i need and wherever i am. This is probably thing of a past, as most people surely using their smartphone to note any important things.

I don't use them much in my personal life but I use them all the time at work, easy to scribble something down I know I don't need long-term, have it immediately visible stuck to something nearby so I don't forget, then toss it in the trash when I'm done with it.

sounds like sticky notes to me. Didnt know they were called post-its too. I used them for a while and they can be very useful for writing some terminal/cmd commands! oh and birthdays of your friends!

aaahh post-its, the "leave the tabs open, ill see it later" of the more analogue era.

also much more coolers, i liked having multiple colors and using them as levels of importance.
