This is nuts to me...

... But it's also been a thing in gaming since the advent of 3D acceleration cards (and possibly earlier).

So: have you? And, if so, was it worth it?

First time I ever built a gaming PC was for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Back in those days, consoles were too weak for 16 vs 16 and only supported 12 vs 12, so if you wanted the true experience you had to get a good PC.

I bought an entirely new gaming PC for Final Fantasy XIV because I'd loved XI so much.

Twist! It was for the original version which was a disaster, and by the time they'd rebranded and relaunched it into the success it became, I'd dejectedly moved on anyway.

I was almost about to fall prey to upgrading my graphics card from a 1660 SUPER for something that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth lets you boot the game up with. I had some strange error when trying to launch it with my current rig when it released on PC a year ago. I decided not too however and it ultimately paid off. Someone down the line created a mysterious patch that fixed my issue and I can now play the game without a sweat. Sure hope I don't find myself in this same situation when Final Fantasy VII Revelation drops next year ::huhsonic

A Nividia 1660 SUPER graphics card should never need to be replaced, it gets the job done for all of my ventures.

I did upgrade my whole rig alongside installing a SSD two-three years back but that was just for games (and my personal sanity) I wasn't too well versed with PC's when I got my first one so I underestimated the vast speed differences a computer with a SSD has compared to one with just a HDD.

I built a brand new rig just so I can run Clip Studio Pro. Gaming was something as an after thought, but I did kept my old gaming pc and repurpose it as a Win7 gaming build.

When the game you want to play freezes just because you're on an older Intel which is not supported which leads to guaranteed crashes on boot, sometimes ya just don't have a choice but to go big or go home. (that's actually a real painful one for me because otherwise the computer was more or less perfect for anything I could throw at it, rip.)

Not exactly FOR the game, but once i finally got a new potato, i made a list of games that ran 1 minute per frame in my first PC (It was just for my Online Preparatoria) i eagerly "Buyed" them and the differences was night and day

Same here, I hope both my 1660 Super and my 1660ti (that I got very cheap on the used market years ago) can last forever. Last modern PC game that got me interested was Elden Ring anyway😅

Hey nice, another member of the 1660 Super club! I'm with you on never feeling like I'd need to replace it. If I can play 5 year old games with average settings and emulate up to PS2 era, I think I'm set.

I've upgraded my rig for a game twice. Once because I got caught up in the Overwatch hype train, and once because Phatasy Star New Genesis required a CPU with AVX to continue playing. Speaking purely for those two games, it wasn't worth it either time. :loldog

However it WAS ultimately worth it because it enabled me to play other better games, emulate more smoothly and run heavier music software.

I played TF2 on a HP Compaq Presario from 2009 with maybe 3 or 5 fps. Somehow I did pretty damn good
Also in these times it may be hard considering the ammount of the price of PC specs and games.
I consider myself very fortunate to have gotten a 2tb external hard drive for peanuts when I did. The currently new Acer Nitro 5 Laptop was also a financial blessing, but still more than I would have been normally willing to pay. But it's decently specced considering the price compared to the competition

No, but I finally upgraded my Windows 7 PC to Windows 10 way after the "end of life" of Win 7 because Steam stopped supporting Win 7.

I really like 7 and hate 10/11, so it was a big deal for me.
I didnt do it for "a" game but, you know, all the Steam games.

Pretty rad my friend

I've never owned my own PC before 2023, so never had to upgrade.

But I was determined to pest my family for an original Xbox to be able to play Fable and Halo:CE. Can't remember ever feeling that I needed a new device to play any other game, though if I'd have played the Dark Souls games before the PS4 came out, I'd have definitely saved up every penny I could to be able to play Bloodbourne.

Those are some good games.

Imagine my glee as a youngster playing the opening of Fable for the first time with my cooler older cousin, being shown that there was a morality system where you could be good or evil and the game would remember your choices. :O

I stumble upon a distraught lady wondering aloud where her no good husband has gotten off to, and her offering a coin for his finding. Only to find said husband tucked behind a neighbouring house, getting down and dirty with another local lass. When he tried to swear me to silence with his own coin, I did what any dastardly rascal would do, agreed to keep me mouth shut, nabbed his coin, then ran straight to his wife to tell her and pick up my second shiny reward. Then followed her round the houses to give her hubby a bollockin'.

Morality gained = 0
Lessons learned = 0
Money Gained = 2

They don't make 'em like they used to. 🥲

The Fable trilogy is some of my favorite games. I still have them for the Xbox 360. The Northen Wastes part is so much fun with all the Jack of Blades taunting. 😂

I really need to play Fable 2 and 3 some day. If I fall in love with a game/film etc I can be really reluctant to try the later entries in case they're not quite as good somehow. Pretty silly really 😅
