Ahhh... Habbo Hotel.

The coolest thing we never experienced.

My parents would NEVER let me or my sisters play this thing (or anything like it, for they'd even draw the line at Club Penguin!) because they had read one too many scary articles about the supposed dangers of online gaming.

So, please tell me: ever played it yourself? Was it all that? Did we actually miss out big time? I know the game is still online and all, but I don't really see myself fulfilling THAT childhood fantasy — I just don't have the patience for those kinds of endeavors anymore.

But I'm willing to at least try if you guys convince me to.

Thanks!

Only thing I remember from this game is the pool being closed, I never touched it and discovered it in like 2017.

Not really, I was a CLUB PENGUIN FAN in my childhood so I can tell you some funny stories about my experience there

i played a bit back in the day. it was mostly geared towards encouraging real-money purchases so you can afford furniture. it was functionally just a virtual chatroom with a few different preset locations to hang out besides your own room. i remember a lot of random tweens/predators trying to find love through this. you aren't missing much. it was distinctly british as well, including slang (sarni for sandwich) and their style of phone booths.

coke music was habbo hotel but you could make songs out of a bunch of preset parts. more of a game than habbo, at least.

I imagine Sammy wanting replies about experiences of the game just to find that nobody played it ::sailor-embarrassed
I expected that, to be honest.

The forum's demographics aren't all that compatible with this.

Yeah, I'm not surprised about the love angle — that was basically what the internet was at that point. Still kind of disappointed by the emphasis on real money for something that looks so... basic.

Thanks, dude!

this reminds me, back when i used to hang out in a steam group called 4chan party van (mid 2000s i think) we played a lot of counter-strike source and we had a guy named xenon there (think he was internet famous for a while) and he made a map called harbl hotel loosely based on the game. i liked that a lot. maybe check that one out.

Yeah I did used to play Habbo as a little kid in the mid to late 2000's. Was actually quite fun at first in all honesty from what I can remember. Probably helped it was one of those things literally every kid in my school was playing, so I had no shortage of friends and other familiar faces to talk to, hang out with and just mess around on there. I know at one point; it did start to gain a bit of a reputation as sort of a haven for child predators, but me personally; I thankfully never saw nor had any run ins with any potentially dangerous people on there.

I can't even really remember why I stopped playing it. It just seemed like one day me and everyone I knew who played just collectively stopped logging in to it and moved on to other things.

I have my account for the brazilian version since 2009. I visit it sometimes. It's funny ;)
