So, my fellow Europeans,
we all know our continent has often been treated differently both now and in the past when it comes to the gaming market.

I created this thread as a place for us to discuss gaming news related to Europe, as well as the history of gaming on our continent. Everyone is welcome, of course you don’t have to be European to participate. Just keep in mind that the focus will be on Europe, so if that’s not your thing… why bother? ::cirnoshrug

Anyway, stay respectful, and feel free to share your love and interest for games here. I’m also curious to see how many Europeans are active on this forum!

European Hub for all of us who suffered in the past with PAL versions.

As an anecdote, I'll mention that here in Spain, we call PAL versions “PALetos.”
Paleto in spanish is like Bumpkin :loldog

But let's not dwell on the negative and talk about the good things about the old continent too.
Legendary European video game companies that have created absolute masterpieces.

Yeah despite how often we got screwed over in the past we managed to create some awesome games also if few we also got some inklusives like the Wipeout 3 Special edition I think where you could play tracks from the previous game.
Also here in Germany we just called them Pal Spiele meaning Pal Games we had no such catchy phrase that I know of.
Also we Europeans created Anno Series and the Settler Series (Siedler) and Far Cry I think which are really great franchises.
And hey at the very least it got somewhat better over here ::sailor-embarrassed we don't have to wait for a Eternity for a game after our American brothers got a game....mostly that is I also love when certain EU nations try to ban or censor a game as if we just could not get over the border and buy it that way or just well Import it from another European nation absolute genuines.

YES
We got rid of 50Hz televisions and, as you say, we no longer have to wait YEARS to see certain games released in our countries.

I remembered two other legendary companies.
Delphine Software, creators of Flashback and the awesome Moto Racer games

And Digital Image Design, creators of some of the bests combat flight simulators in 90's
EF-2000 and F-22 Air Dominance Fighter

Honestly, when I think about Europe and the EU these days, I feel really sick.
Sad frustrated lost concerned a also terms to describe how I feel when I think of the current Situation
But we try to keep Politics out of as this here is about gaming if we where to talk about the political Situation in Europe this thread would get closed and we would not get far with it either way on this forum.

Well I suppose politics are allowed as long as they are about games and specifically concern games I think like new regulations regarding games or something but I am not sure the rule can be a bit vague on that one.

So anything regarding gaming inside Europe you wanna talk about as if you want to talk something more Political you would have to do a private message with a user who is interested in that.

Yes Ok but I'll add one more thing: it's the politics here that are increasingly destroying the gaming industry.

They are but its nothing new in Le Europe the continent of Censorship sadly and that especially in my homeland Germany.
Sad Cry GIF by Piñata Farms: The Meme App

All we can do is pray and hope I guess we may have to do some Initiative to stop censorship over here.

One thing I always found funny and interesting is finding out that there are some hardcode Retro game collectors in Europe who only collect the old 50hz versions of the games from back in the day.

Kudos to them for doing so and I can definitely see some cases where this would be valid (I still prefer the probotector games over Contra) but after playing the NTSC versions of games from way back when, I can't ever go back. Except for the contra/probotector games

i don't know if this a hot take, but i prefer spanish final fantasy spell names much more
example
fire->piro cure->cura shell->escudo (shield)
fira->piro+ cura->cura+ protect->coraza (armor)
firaga->piro++ curaga->cura++ raise-> lazaro

they are way easier for me to read as a dislexic guy, i hope other people share the same opinion

Europeans carried 16 bit revolution on their shoulders in the 80s after the crash, via computers (AtariST and Amiga mainy). Because Mega Drive appeared only in 1989 and SNES in early 90s. Till then, 16 bit games were released on computers. DOS machines were still underpowered and ultra expensive

Honestly, when I think about Europe and the EU these days, I feel really sick.

EU bureaucrats and NATO hawks are one and the same, at the expense of Europeans, even more so the last few years
