Especially regretful purchases: What's the worst game you've ever played?

When I was a kid, we passed by a game store with my brother. Our dad could only buy us one game (for the Psx), my brother wanted Pandemonium while I wanted a bike game (I don't even remember the name). We argued a lot, and since I was the youngest, our dad ended up buying me the one I wanted... I played it like two times and never touched it again. The handling was terrible, you only had like 4 bikes to choose from, and overall, the game was boring. That's probably the earliest memory I have of a regretful purchase. My brother still brings it up too ::rofl

While I've never usually regretted game purchases, mostly because I look way too much into games before getting them, probably the worst purchase I've made is Mojo!, a game for PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
I got a copy sealed for like $5 so it really wasn't that bad for how much I paid, but good lord is it one of the most generic looking games I've seen on PS2. Moreso, it was developed by FarSight Technologies, a developer that is probably known more nowadays for their pinball simulators that I've heard are actually somewhat decent, so the fact that this game's marble physics are as janky as they are is rather amusing.

I've always been against pre-ordering but with a game with so much hype it would be impossible to avoid spoilers if you haven't played it in the first days, I guess.
I actually finished the first game a couple months before the second game released and I figured since I really like the first game and had extra PSN funds on me, I decided to buy the second game just to see where the story was going to go.

This was my first time pre-ordering off of the PS Store.

Sounds like big rigs with bikes lmaooo

Dragon's Dogma 2. I bought it for $52 (using coupons) during the launch day but the game performed so bad that it was unplayable especially in the city. I've never regretted buying a game in my life before and promised myself that I will never buy a game above $30 ever no matter how hyped it is.

It's a little muddier in the past 20 years or so with digital purchases making up the majority of my game buying, and so many of those disposably cheap. I'm sure I've played stinkers but I've just moved on, and I've been way more willing to just ditch something that isn't working out for me.

However, as a kid with modest means I was plentifully stung after handing over my precious pocket money for some budget range garbage on the ZX Spectrum. Two always fix themselves in my memory: Molecule Man, and Rapid Fire. £1.99 most definitely spent poorly. Take Head over Heels or Ocean's Batman, remove any charm or visual interest and make it especially clunky, boring and unforgiving, and you have Molecule Man. Rapid Fire also hails from the time I would make a correlation between the excitement of box art and the product within. Endlessly tedious, barely playable rubbish.

Well... I mean, why didn't you just wait until the remixes just showed up on yt?
For one, no one ever labelled the remixes as being preorder bonuses, in fact I think most people STILL didn't know
Also because playing music in game is way cooler than just on my phone. It feels eh otherwise. I also assumed the music would be numerous and customisable, like the ability to set it to a level similar to Generations

Basically:

What I expected: Multiple different remixes whether from Colors or other games
What I got: Remixes of Planet Wisp that play for Act 1-3 that are so minor that I didn't think they were the preorder bonus

Growing up during the 16 bit era, with no internet, and too young to read reviews from Game Magazines, I've bought games like Batman Forever, X-Perts for $70+ at my local K-Mart.... Well my parents did of course.

Carnaval. Games. Wii. My son wanted it SO BAD and he was too young at the time to understand when I told him it would suck. It did. Very. I think he played it twice. Then my brother came over and we hate-played it to completion. Just about broke our wiimotes.

Not the worst game I've played, but my biggest regret purchase is easily Super Mario 3D All-Stars fpr Nintendo Switch. I paid £50 for a half-assed collection of the earlier 3D Marios. 64 was the Shindou Edition, Sunshine had a lot of issues that Nintendo didn't account for and Galaxy with a Pro Controller is just awkward. Well at least in the way they mapped it. Little extras in the form of music, no Galaxy 2 or 3D Land. The overall collection felt rushed and the limited release sealed its fate for me.

If anything, that collection made me second guess buying remasters/remakes going forward.

In the late eighties,  Soccer for NES and F-1 Race for DMG-001: as often happened, the attractive box covers were deliberately misleading. Having learned my lesson, I later always consulted the vg magazines before purchasing. ??‍♂️

I didn't purchase it myself but it cost me an even rarer resource: my parents money. The abomination that is Quest 64. I cannot adequately express the disappointment. I had begged for an N64 because how could I miss out on all the great upcoming Square titles? (child me assuming Square would continue to develop for Nintendo) Well, an RPG finally comes along in the form of Quest 64. While all the cool kids at school are enjoying Final Fantasy VII. I had more fun reading the FFVII players guide over their shoulders than playing this absolute slog.

The last game I ever pre-ordered and yes I'm still mad that its forever sat in my steam library.

I distinctly recall buying a pirated disk of Jedi Power Battles for the ps1 when I was 10. During a time where you only get to play the one game your parents got you for the next several months, I only ever popped it in two times. (Different times) Something about that game just rubbed my kid self the wrong way.
Also, Worms Armageddon for the ps1. I remember wanting that one after playing it on a friend's pc. I don't remember how it played on my console, just the disappointment at the downgrade.
The ps1 is my absolute favorite console ever, but the ps2 couldn't have come out sooner...
Also, I guess these two experiences (possibly along with other ones, that I don't care to remember) taught me never to pay for any form of software. (unless I've tried it out first, put your pitchforks down... )

I was warned about them but i thought "how bad can they be?": Devil May Cry 2 and Castlevania Lamment of Innocence. What's worse than a bad game? a boring one. At least castlevania had the pumpkin mode, which was kind of fun. I also bought new super mario bros. 2 because i played the first one a lot when it came out. Not good.

The one i regret the most is majora's mask remake, i liked it but when i completed the game i wished that i had bought monster hunter 4u instead.

Spawn on PS1
WWF In Your House on PS1
Mischief Makers on N64
Silhouette Mirage on PS1

All games I had hopes for in some ways but either didn't meet those hopes, or annoyed me in ways that I eventually traded them in or whatever.

Cyberpunk 2077. I swore to myself that I would never buy another western game after that POS.
