Something rotten is in the fictional Town of Eriksholm. The ordinary citizens live in crushing poverty the heartpox which is fatal to almost all sufferers is spreading ever further and the authorities react extremely repressively to any threat even if the threat is just a young woman from the lower class. A young woman named Hanna is thrown into a particularly unfortunate situation right from the start of the game. Hanna is just recovered from her heartpox and was cared for by her younger brother Herman during her illness.

Nice visit looks different

Hanna was feeling somewhat better and he left her apartment one a evening and didn't return. Suddenly the Police officers appeared at the door and searching for her without revealing why.

Hanna waits on the ladder until the guard has moved on
At this moment your stealth adventure begins in a total of eight story chapters in Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream which will keep you occupied for approximately fifteen to twenty hours .The Game is voiced entirely in English but all text is also translated into German and conversations in the short video scenes and cutscenes are subtitled. With the protagonist you search for suitable hiding places in the richly detailed rotatable and zoomable environment in isometric view and learn to time your enemies' movements for a stealthy advance. While in the first chapter you escape from the siblings' sealed-off neighborhood to search for Herman. Hanna's path later leads you into a mining mine and an upscale urban neighborhood complete with a hedge maze and you visit an underground cemetery complex and break into a fortress.

The story is told in short video sequences

All good things come in threes

Diverse levels constantly force you to adapt your approach to the diverse challenges at night. You scurry from shadow to shadow dodging the beam of moving spotlights or destroying light sources. During the day your options are hiding behind walls crates and other debris and you evade passersby who could betray you to your enemies.

Alva scares away birds with a stone from her slingshot
Hanna is not helpless in the face of so many problems: With a blowgun you can fire tranquilizer darts or squeeze through ventilation shafts that enemies can't follow. What's more in later chapters? Hanna is no longer alone, she receives energetic and competent support from the thief Alva and Hanna's best fatherly friend Sebastian.

Timing is the Key to win

Alva can nimbly climbs drainpipes and skillfully prances across rooftops and using her slingshot to destroy lamps or scare away birds from a safe distance. Sebastian can knocks out opponents with a chokehold and if necessary even swims through a sewer. A lot of Certain enemies can also only be defeated if Hanna first stuns them and then Sebastian chokes them. In such situations it's particularly stupid that the game doesn't always switch smoothly between the three characters.

Extras around the corner

The save points are distributed extremely fairly so you usually be reset to the beginning of a puzzle if your tactics or timing are off. Puzzles that don't require stealth as using symbol codes to traverse a mine tunnel network or activating power generators or water locks are not only fit perfectly into the industrial setting reminiscent of the technological possibilities of the 1900s but are also designed fairly.

The star is the story

Hanna's story develops quickly from a mere rescue narrative into an insight of a dangerous intrigue involving Eriksholm's highest circles. The makers River End Games skillfully guides you through an adventure with the main heroine Hanna where you slowly but steadily gain more insight into the events. The heroes and villains in this story are fairly obvious and a major plot twist in the midgame is somewhat predictable that overall the setting and story are so captivatingly written that you played through the game in a daze until the credits rolled you want to know how it all ended!

Small puzzles liven up the game beyond the stealth

My Conclusion

Everything is right in Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream the Game is Challenging but fair stealth passages with interesting characters who have very different abilities and an exciting diverse setting with a well-staged story not just for stealth fans. If you like creative stealth action games you should definitely pick up a look at Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream!
