Recently bought a Trimui Smart Pro and tried for emulating bio hazard 2 value plus or resident evil 2 in both JPN and US version for Dreamcast. However, the speed maybe around 1/4 of normal for both version which is basically unplayable.

I used tg5040_smartpro_SD_base_package_20240413 for set up and have a firmware 1.0.4 by the way. Flycast is the emulator. I am not sure if any change of settings or emulators or operating systems can help running. Perhaps TSP is not powerful enough for emulating for this game?

Dreamcast version has nightmare mode which is always challenging to play. You may shoot twenty or even thirty to kill a zombie by a handgun or if you are lucky enough one shot kill. In addition, the graphics is best out of PS or Gamecube version. That is why i like Dreamcast version most.

Thanks for comments. ?

I've ran most of the games with Flycast on my 4th gen i5 laptop and there's seems to be little to no issues. Who knows though, maybe it's still a hardware issues

Anyway, do you have the pic of the settings?

Playing Sega Rally 2 has similar problem.

But seem does not have problem running resident evil 3 and code Veronica.

It looks like you're using Flycast via RetroArch. Try the standalone version.

EDIT: Nevermind, I thought it was a phone. Did a little more digging and from what I found DC emulation on this thing seems hit-and-miss. You can try updating the firmware or messing with graphics settings. Maybe a different backend will run better?

Have you tried using Redream? That works well even on low end devices.

Works fine using Flycast @ https://flyinghead.github.io/flycast-builds/
Using japanese_cake bios @ https://japanese-cake.livejournal.com/10056.html

Did you enable Windows CE Mode?

Redream doesn't have WinCE support

Enable Window CE Mode does not help.

Downloaded jc-bootROM-devkit-v1.032.bin and jc-bootROM-retail-v1.032.bin, but I cannot figure out how to use them in Trimui Smart Pro. Simply placed them at RetroArch/.retroarch/system? but I am not sure how to trigger them instead of dc_boot.bin.

btw, I tried to use flycast in my desktop, seem smooth but only some lag on CG. So not a problem on Roms.

You don't need both. Place devkit one & rename to dc_boot.bin. I use the devkit one because of the boot animation. Place file into folder named DC.

It sounds like a hardware issue, I know the DC emus used to be such resource hogs in the beginning, but I know things have changed now with the new gen tech.

I can confirm it works right out of the box without having to make any certain changes. Just place the bios into this installation directory, for example, "C:\RetroArch-Win64\system\dc"

Thanks for your replies.

It seems that Trimui Smart Pro is not good enough for emulating certain DC games.

I have tried to replace the boot file, it does have a cool startup and the animation is good. However this cannot help the speed of game.

Checked some youtube clips, TSP does not work well for some games like Sega Rally 2, but work fair for many other DC games.

Btw, my TSP cannot be turned on for two days. So I cannot test it. This issue seems common, but may be fixed by putting out the battery for seconds or let the batteries run out. That is why I may switch to RP5
Perhaps I may buy a RP5 later which seem work well for many PS2 games as well.
