NES version of the seminal classic Elite, which formed the basis for most of the space trading sandbox games that followed.
It was published in Europe by Imagineer, but the NTSC version never found a publisher originally.

I can't guarantee it will work on hardware, mind you. No such guarantee should be implied.

Elite is a very ambitious game on the old Commodore computers. Crazy there was ever a port on the NES. I could never play it on real hardware cause of the 50hz PAL timing. But to possibly play in 60hz is awesome! Ill try and hope its not glitchy like before. This and "Dropzone" is what I was waiting for a 60HZ version.

Are you sure this is a proper NTSC ROM? It's the exact same glitchy mess on my AV Famicom as the European ROM is.

I always heard the game couldn't be ported to the NTSC NES because it made very specific use of the timings of the PAL console.
The one that says world has been NTSC optimized.

Same here lol; And I've heard of a LOT of obscure NES games!

(And, according to a couple others here, it appears to be a port of another game with the same name.)
Yes. Do you know this game?: https://store.steampowered.com/app/359320/Elite_Dangerous/

It's the 4th game in the "Elite series" and this NES game is the port of the first game that originally released in 1984 for the BBC Micro home computer in the UK, and then in 1991 they ported the game for NES but it only managed to be released on Europe so it may explain why Americanos and Japanese doesn't know about this game, but I have no idea why its American version wasn't released when it would be a hit there. I imagine game released too late on NES for Americans when they would be busy with SNES and Sega Genesis.

Elite series was rather not "obscure" in its own context for many reasons but people who knows knows the rebranded name of the series "The Frontier" instead which is the name 2nd and 3rd games were released as. Elite is not the first of its kind but important game of its kinda to establish 3D foundation of such a game and therefore granma of whatever game regarding space simulation games that released afterwards for inspiring them for guiding them how such genre games can be done so the series is known and a big deal so as each game in the series, which may be why mentioning name of any game in this series as "obscure" would be same as saying "Metal Gear games are obscure games of obscure stealth genre games" lol. These days people likely to know the 4th game Elite Dangerous which released after 2 decades of break between the previous game though. FIN!!! lol

Although the game was only released in Europe for the NES version, it is not bad for a space simulation game and taking into account that this game is based on the personal computer versions of the time although the BBC Micro & Acorn Electron are the original versions of the game.
