My favourite genre, here's some good ones!

- Spider - Cronenberg
- Mulholland Drive - Lynch
- Lost Highway - Lynch
- Vivarium - Finnegan
- INLAND EMPIRE - Lynch
- Blue Velvet - Lynch
- The Machinist - Cronenberg
- The Tenant - Polanski
- Pi - Aronofsky
- Otogirisou / St. John's Wort (yes, there's a film!) - Shimoyama
- Eraserhead - Lynch
- Vertigo - Hitchcock
- Requiem for a Dream - Aronofsky

Stalker. It's a Russian film based on the novel Roadside Picnic. The video game was loosely inspired by the story.

The plot revolves around a man known as a "Stalker". He leads people into a strange area called The Zone that has been altered by an extraterrestrial event in order to retrieve artifacts. There's supposed to be a special room in The Zone where any wish will be granted. But it's just not that easy. It's a truly bizarre sci fi film.

The movie Annihilation is very similar if you want more of the same sort of story. It's also based on a novel but the author has stated that it's not inspired by Roadside Picnic.

Also try The Endless. It's kind of similar. It's about two brothers who return to the cult that they left years ago that one of them believes was tied to UFO phenomena. When they get there nothing has changed and there are these strange occurrences that defy logic. It takes place in the same universe as Resolution and Synchronic. But I haven't seen either of them yet.

Anything by David Lynch and these two japanese films

I will have to keep this post in my favorites, I love this genre.
This is my recommendation.

A group of friends gather for a dinner party on a night that coincidentally a comet is passing overhead. Some of these people have stories between them, there are girlfriends and ex which will add to the chaotic atmosphere to come. The thing is that the light will go out so they decide to go outside the house and check on the neighbours, everything is strangely dark so they decide to go with different coloured glow sticks, they found soon a house that has light. It is strangely familiar... and for some reason some of the group has little injuries, there is also a strange box. Strange things happens, one question will remain: are you really you?

If there's something that ruins the mood for me is those mindless jump scares. A sudden raise of volume while flashing a strong image doesn't enhance a movie...
I rather watch movies that make you feel uneasy because of the situation, not because something's gonna jump out at any time.

Some recommendations:

Man when I saw this I was gonna put Creep here. The bad guy's actor kills his role with zero effort.
But I do have one recommendation. I saw this French indie film called Raw. It used to be on Netflix. It's about this girl who is going to college to be a Veterinarian, and all of her family is vegan. Eventually some things happen and she gets the taste for meat. It's a strange movie and you have to be open to reading subtitles if you don't speak French but it was really good IMO.

Here's the thing: I don't like recommending stuff I like. From experience, seldom have high expectations lead to rewarding experiences. Therefore, my only recommendation to whoever bites, is to assume that I'm wrong, and that I have absolutely no idea of what I'm talking about. I'm a fraud, and have no taste in movies. What I like sucks, you get the idea.

oky ghost spooking some people. It's a long, boring snooze-fest, full of people yapping about some family drama or whatever. In the end, it feels more like a mock reality show than a film resembling in any way a horror movie. It has no supernatural elements, and nothing gets resolved in the end.
Ya like that description? Go ahead and check it out.

i would give the standard answer of john carpenter's the thing. it's pretty good from what i hear.

The cabinet of doctor caligari, a German expressionist silent movie that has a very eerie, design of the sets, with a very angular architecture, unusual camera angles and as is common in early silent movies actors act in a more theatrical way(Lots of non verbal language).
Another one is Rosemary's Baby, very few movies can maintain a sense of tension as well as this one in my book.

I genuinely believe that Cure has to be dealt with caution. For several days, I woke up in the middle of the night, sweating like I'd gone for a jog, despite the weather being cold.

The baby (1973)

‘A social worker, still reeling from the loss of her architect husband, investigates the eccentric, psychedelic Wadsworth Family, consisting of a mother, two daughters, and an adult son with the apparent mental capacity of an infant.’

Warning!
there is some sexual abuse

These two, they're REQUIRED.

Can't believe nobody mentioned this masterpiece. My favorite psychological horror of all time... Just go watch it with as less spoilers as possible...

Session 9 (2001) is quite good. Maybe some Atom Egoyan movies, like Exotica and The Adjuster, qualify as psychological thrillers.

So I recently watched Resolution and Synchronic. Definitely watch Resolution before The Endless for maximum enjoyment. As for Synchronic, I was surprised. It deals with time travel and the red flower ties it back to the other two movies and you understand what it actually does. It leads to some speculation as to exactly what is going on in The Endless.

There is two that always come to mind as pretty entertaining movies without the cheap jump scare

This one is a personal favorite of mine, it's a slowburn kinda movie but it's really worth a watch.

And the second one is Pontypool an awesome take on horror movie, the story truly is awesome, even at low budget what they did with the movie is remarkable
