O

Oh shit, you're right lol. Didn't even notice that at first glance.

And they seemed to have used the American Sega CD cover for the 2nd game despite it being the PAL version.
What do you mean "used the American Sega CD cover for the 2nd game despite it being the PAL version"?

Ecco: The Tides of Time had this Mega-CD PAL cover:

eeeeem... probably the second XD.

Edit: by the way, this is the box-art of the European Mega drive version. Not the european Mega-CD version, which has 2:

The left one is the very old format, where the Mega-CD was already released in some PAL markets, like UK, but not in all the PAL markets, during 1993. There was like... some months of difference, apparently, because some countries decided to wait until the Mega CD2 new model, appeared in the second part of that year.

Haven't played this version. I AM curious to see if this is one of those instances where the Sega CD release is just a straight port of the Genesis version with barely anything new aside from CD quality audio or if the gameplay was significantly improved – giving less of a reason to play the Genesis original.

the Mega CD version is obviously based on the Mega Drive version, although the most obvious difference is in the soundtrack, which is completely different and more ambient and of better quality.

Also known simply as Ecco.
