Not much to talk about, other than I've found a very nice pack, ready to play, of a PC-98 emulator with some notable games already packed in. Very similar to the X68k pack and guide that I shared recently in another thread. If you're interested in trying out some older games of this machine (like the early Touhou games) this is an easy alternative. The video has english subtitles, but the onscreen process is very easy to follow even without them.

The only thing I find confusing is how to know what the correct soundboard is to use for every individual different game.

Need to give this a watch—one of my handhelds runs PC-98 perfectly, my preferred handheld isn’t displaying any text. I did try adding the English font file but guess I’m still missing something

This is much appreciated. I've wanted to try more PC-98 in the past, but have struggled with setting it up perfectly a bit, so I'm definitely going to use this.

By some weird voodoo I was able to get some pc98 games running on retroarch on my phone. Unfortunately, they were not good. Also, it seems to be very finicky about what it will and won't run and there doesn't seem to be a criteria for that? Its utterly random. Like, I wasn't able to get EVO 98 to run but I got the Sailor Moon and Bubblegum Crisis games to run.

Maybe it prefers anime visual novels? *shrug*

I might have to try this guide. I've never once gotten Neko Project (or any of its forks) to work, but I've had luck with DOSBOX-X getting the Touhou games to run.

So far the easiest way I found to emulate PC-98 was in Retrobat (probably batocera works the same way but I haven't tried). You just need the bios files and everything else is auto configured, it even has mouse support on the analog stick. I finished Dragon Knight 1 and it was completely hassle free, and the dungeon crawling plays very nice on a modern controller. Just slap a CRT filter and you are good to go.
