The second half of the EarthBound Collection set, this time improving on EarthBound to create mechanical and quality parity with its recently released fan remake of the first game in the series. Among other things, it introduces bugfixes and script improvements while staying faithful to the original localization where applicable, creating an excellent vanilla plus experience.

Author(s): EarthBound Collection Team (many authors)
Type: Bugfix, Quality of Life, Script
Version: 1.0
Date: 14th of June, 2026
Status: Fully Playable

script improvements
That phrase is in many mod descriptions, but 100% of modders fail to give sentence-level examples that show what they did or what their aesthetic compass is. The modders who give an example will always only give noun phrases / key item / Name changes, as if there's no such thing as sentence dialog...which is actually the entire bulk of any JRPG.

Maybe something to add to this listing description. I don't know much about the game to know if this is good or bad. Will wait for someone more knowledgable to offer suggestion on this vs the other Mother 2 hacks for first-time experience.
I will add more information, thanks. As someone that did finish vanilla, this is really vanilla plus, even from a cursory glance.

Basically this is as close as it gets to a polished vanilla experience, this only corrects all the typos and inconsistencies in the script, bug fixes, and a little of QoL additions that they added to keep up with the quality of the first game's remake that they made.
Yes, I'll add more details soon.

Again, I wish I could tell you. This hack in particular has no documentation to speak of, and I added it to enable full gameplay parity with the EB Beginnings Remake that was added earlier.

The changes in their YT channel's description:
'Giygas Strikes Back!' is a hack that fixes certain bugs from vanilla EarthBound, changes Starman Junior's battle sprite, includes QOL features from the remake like buying items in bulk, running, makes the Kraken drop the Gutsy bat (1/128), fixes certain strange inconsistencies from Mother 2 like a missing bush in Deep Darkness, corrects all of the localization's typos, and changes certain lines that acknowledge it's a sequel like the Gas Station screen.

"script improvements while staying faithful to the original localization where applicable"

Does this apply to jokes and name changes to items due to differing cultures? If so, its super unnecessary. I don't recall anything in the story being deep enough to warrant changes.

I still think Maternalbound Redux is the best way to play this classic, but this is really cool! Thank you so much, Rage! ::chocobo-wave
Maternalbound Redux is my favorite, too.
Mother 25th anniversary edition used to be my favorite for the first part. Playing the remake now... it MIGHT replace that one! its really nice

Anyone have a clue which one to play between Mother 2 Perfect Edition vs MaternalBound Redux vs this? For "vanilla plus" experience.
Sadly this lacks detailed documentation.. I wish I could give you a more detailed breakdown.

Yeah no this is really awesome to have, will play it once I beat the Virtual Console copy of Earthbound my best friend got me fer my birthday years ago.

...Ah, it's sad really... Wish we could still have services like that on Nintendo. Surprising that Sony is the one doing it still, ngl.
