Why'd we get a bunch of crappy Need for Speed games for years instead of a new Burnout? Didn't Paradise do really well at the time? I know some people didn't like the open world, however I remember a lot of people playing it and talking about it when it originally released. Anyways, looks like we're never getting another Burnout. I won't miss Need for Speed, though.

Ahh this is kind of sucky news.

We're playing Burnout 3: Takedown in the Nostalgia Society this month and it's been an awesome time. Sort of sad to see Criterion only doing more FPS nonsense forward until the end of time. Will get @diapered to pour one out for them the next time he drunk-drive crashes.

Burnout 3 was the highlight of the series anyway - where can you really go from there ? i will tell you what racing game needs to come back - "split second" , that game should have been huge - it needs another chance.

Means of 2 things
1: A new talent dev team will take the rights and do something with it, most likely a remake or a remastered
2: Its truly dead

Take your picks

Not even socked in the slightest. The last game I cared about was Rivals. I heard heat is pretty decent, but they've been milking this franchise to the ninth degree.

Paradise did well enough, but EA felt there was a much else they could do, and nobody else at Criterion was interested in making another one. Outside of that one mobile spinoff, nobody cares about, and you can't even get anymore.

heat is amazing was well worth the graphics upgrade you get on a PS5 even if the servers are a little dead at times.

A damn shame. I loved both NFS and Burnout back on the PS2 days. Sure the quality of newer NFS has been hit or miss, but at least I thought the franchise would continue in some way. I guess NFS Unbound was really that bad, huh?

EA being EA, i'm not surprised at this decision. There's also the fact that car licenses for games have been getting more and more expensive to get, so one or two failed games is enough to stop making more.

Then they went on to make 10+ years of Need for Speed games that offered absolutely nothing new. Wild.

How jaded and out of touch a statement, but unsurprising given EA's reputation, coupled with the fact the company imploded and is being bailed out by foreign investment at a loss.

Only the biggest cash cows will remain, and even these will continue to rot and produce vile, tainted milk.

Just makes me want to play Need for Speed 2 on PSX again. The physics were so delightfully janky it was a hoot. Also makes me wonder if the PC version was the same...

Another legacy studio cast to the yearly entry AAA-slop mines.

The crash can't come soon enough.

glad i still have a ps2 can revisit the best years.
I got the 360 version of Most Wanted (2005) and Need for Speed Nitro (Wii) in my collection. Hot Pursuit (2010) I do not have anymore, and Rivals I traded in a long time ago, and don't see myself returning. I might pick up Carbon for some Initial D/Tokyo Drift nostalgia.

I really have no idea what EA was trying to accomplish with The Run. It just looked like a worse or even more gimmicky version of Undercover. And eve Undercover itself was just a worse version of MW2005. The only difference being your the undercover cop, and is pretty much a less interesting version of the original The Fast and The Furious.
Raycevick on The Run & other NFS titles.

was playing fast and furious super cars earlier not a bad arcade job. similar to cruis'n blast

I think it is good that finally the franchise ended .

I like Need for Speed because i want to drive my favourite luxury cars in beautiful tracks that looked like awesome vacation resorts followed by cool and chill techno soundtracks that made it really stylish to drive around . The perfect vibing arcade-racer .

The whole street-racing thing was great at first but became overloaded when suddenly characters appear with an charisma of spitballs and an attitude like vanilla pudding with a glass of water at the side or worse ! A running " How do you do fellow illegal tuning-heads and shady racers ?"- meme .

I "Need to See" EA going bankrupt. And, it's IP's sold off for pennies on the dollar to real developer owned companies again.

It is supremely sad that executives at least pretending to care about the medium, even if it was clearly PR speak. The way they are so bold and confident in just being cold and anti-worker/anti-art speaks so much to how far the industry has fallen.
