Dynasty Warriors

I've only played Dynasty Warriors 2 to any extensive amount mostly because I was interested on early PS2 titles
Had DW2 when ps2 launched, it was mind blowing how much fun it was for the time. I lost interest after DW4, though :( I would say DW3 is my favorite and I will randomly pickup and play to this day.

Never played the main series but I got to play this one.
It’s fun. Emulate or play ps2 though, ps3 ver has less content if I remember correctly. Ps2 is the “updated” ver with more content. Same with dynasty warriors 6.
There’s a lot of stuff to do. So many characters to befriend. It’s a fantastic love letter to the franchise.

I've played a bit of DW Gundam back in the PS2 at a friend's place, and really liked it. A couple of years ago I played DW7 on Steam and also really liked it, there was still a couple of story modes I haven't finished there. Also got 8 and 4 set aside for playing later, and I hear that the new one, Origins, is a good return to form for the franchise, that had been wobbling since 9.

Since this thread put me in the DW mood and you posted that, I decided to try it just now and I am hyped playing it as a gundam fan, this would have blown my mind as a kid! But worried I am in for some frustration...

This huge asshole just kept stepping on me! Took me forever to clear this training level and you have infinite health! I'm worried I'm gonna get obliterated when shit gets real :( I must be doing something wrong...

I feel like I should like Dynasty Warriors, but the few times I've tried one of them out it's never really hooked me or anything. Maybe I haven't tried the right one. Are the PS2 ones a good place to start?

I guess. I keep hearing DW4 is one of the best ones in the series so you should probably try that one if emulating is your choice. DW7 and 8 are also very very good.

Only ones I know... I like DW3 because it is simple and just a good time. 4 is good too, but they are starting to get crazy with item collecting and activating parts of stories etc. with that one. I just want to run around and beat people up! 3 also has a camp factor that others have already posted which adds to the charm :)

This is pretty much my exact same experience with Dynasty Warriors.

After a few hours of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, it starts to fall into the same Dynasty Warrior trap, at some point all the battles feel the same. But I do enjoy how quickly the game loads in and out of battles, and it's still fun to blast through untold hordes.

But the story is a mess, the cutscenes are slow and the story is tedious and uninteresting.
