Dynasty Warriors

My fave are 4, 5, 8, SW2 empires, the Gundam one, and the second Ken's rage.
Normally with so many characters to choose I don't really have a go-to character, but Xiaohou Dun availability at the beginning in most games made his presence grew on me hahaha.
Yeahhh same he’s a stable pick for me too

This seems like the right thread! Where should I start with Dynasty Warriors? It sounds silly but I've never really owned a copy, it's just one of those games I never had the chance to play back in the day. I've downloaded most of them but I haven't tried one yet! The only thing I've come close to playing like Dynasty Warriors were clones like Ninety Nine Nights 1/2.

Never really played the main series but I played this bad boy over here and it’s loads of fun.

I've been a fan of the series since my cousin introduced me to DW2 back in 2002. I've enjoyed almost every entry in the series besides the Strikeforce games and DW9. If I had to choose a top 3 from the series it'd have to be DW5 Empires, SW2 Empires, and DW8 Xtreme Legends Complete. I really liked Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity up until the time travel crap. I tried the demo for DW Origins but I don't know how to feel about not being able to go through the various kingdoms campaign modes. At least, from what I've seen you only use the new guy and the other characters are just assists? I could be wrong though, haven't looked too much into it.

one of those games that i liked a lot was the musou game of arslan senki. i played it on ps3.

and i have it wishlisted for years and years and it simply won't have discount. (all koei games are horribly expensive here).

recently, i gave up in waiting it goes on sale and tested it on rcps3, runs good. I will test sw4 empires too to see if it works

Are you ok with emulating them or are you looking for playing them physically? Or modern hardware? Curious

Oh I'm more than happy to emulate! That's mostly how I play my stuff nowadays, I really like it.
I’m super glad! If that’s the case, please give dynasty warriors 5 a go! You would probably love it. All games are disconnected. Dynasty Warriors 5 is unique because all characters have their own campaign instead of being faction based like 4. 3 does that too, but 5 is more beginner friendly! 8 is the most beginner friendly, and 7 has the best story but I don’t want you seeking a physical copy right off the gate. You should play 5 just to get your feet wet! It’s really awesome! I’ve a guide on how you can combine it with the expansion pack, but you don’t need to do that right now so no worries ?

Ooo. I'll definitely do that then, I'll go pull 5 now and get it set up for tommorow. Thanks very much Yousef! <3 --.. And, guide? I think that was in an article you wrote right? I'm not sure if I read it, I probably did! Everything is kind of a blur when it's late night for me.

No no it’s nothing like that haha. Rather, a quick tutorial I’ve saved in my private notes. I’ll pull it up when needed. It’s for emulation only because doing it on real hardware has zero hassle haha.

Ooh, okie dokie! Thanks Yousef!

Seeing as I've always loved beat 'em ups, I'm an easy mark for 1 vs. 1000 action games. The mainline games/spin-offs are a pit of despair for the last decade or so, but the licensed off-shoots help fill the gap. The most recent one I played was Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, and this is *maybe* a weird opinion, but I enjoy it better than the game it's based on.

I was never the biggest Three Houses fan to begin with, I always get pretty bored with the lackluster story and the school mechanics, but I'm surprised how much more I liked the characters and setting in this pseudo-sequel/re-telling over the original. It's also an enormous improvement over the first Fire Emblem Warriors, which was about the most flavorless gruel of a video game I've ever played.

Common my friend. Although my reason for liking this more than the game it’s based on is cuz I don’t like FE to begin with haha (I do love the NES ones though!)

I liked the Empires games, I think I played 4 and 5 Empires a decent amount on PS2 and 360 back in the day. More recently, I've enjoyed some of the musou games from different properties, mostly Hyrule Warriors, Dragon Quest Heroes II and Persona 5 Strikers.

Not an actual musou game, but anyone ever play Ninety-Nine Nights on 360? It seemed absolutely amazing at the time, although I tried to play it later, and yeah, it's a little rough haha.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins takes away the option of having 100 officers, but the improvements Omega has made to the combat are noticeable. You definitely feel like you are a part of a huge battle, and everything from air striking to simple combos has been revamped for a super fun outcome.
The downside for me was the price, but it's good that there are sites with activations like steamrent. I recommend this game to anyone who has lost hope in the franchise, but really enjoyed it before.

No you’re not having Deja Vu. DW thread got accidentally purged LOL, it’s a long story, but the short answer is that XenForo might be the silliest silly thing to ever silly.
Lessons were learned today.

We now resume our usual programming.

My favorite DWs are 5, 7 and 8.

I’m curious though, is anyone interested in a dynasty warriors guide?

Given the popularity of the series people would absolutely appreciate guides. I've seen in passing that a few games lean into light kingdom management, providing a sort of crossover space with Koei's other big hitter, Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

I have a friend thst absolutely loves the RotK games.

You are very kind with your feedback. Thanks.
Lookout! I am going to cast Magic!
Feel the power of my magic!
Someday I'll get the platinum of DW 7 on 360
I will love you forever if you do. One day I’ll get all the Steam achievements too.

I've only played Dynasty Warriors 2 to any extensive amount mostly because I was interested on early PS2 titles, it's very primitive both visually and mechanically but it still sets the groundwork for the entire series. Kessen was a more impressive tech demo from Toei.

I love Kessen!! Check out Dynasty Tactics, might be up your alley if you like Kessen!
