Dynasty Warriors

Are the PS2 ones a good place to start?
Only ones I know... I like DW3 because it is simple and just a good time. 4 is good too, but they are starting to get crazy with item collecting and activating parts of stories etc. with that one. I just want to run around and beat people up! 3 also has a camp factor that others have already posted which adds to the charm :)

Had DW2 when ps2 launched, it was mind blowing how much fun it was for the time. I lost interest after DW4, though :( I would say DW3 is my favorite and I will randomly pickup and play to this day.
This is pretty much my exact same experience with Dynasty Warriors.

After a few hours of Dynasty Warriors: Origins, it starts to fall into the same Dynasty Warrior trap, at some point all the battles feel the same. But I do enjoy how quickly the game loads in and out of battles, and it's still fun to blast through untold hordes.

But the story is a mess, the cutscenes are slow and the story is tedious and uninteresting.

Do not pursue Lu Bu.
SW4 and DW8 have been my favorites. Lu Lingqi and Kunoichi best characters.

Kessen was a more impressive tech demo from Toei.
I also had kessen as a launch title but didn't appreciate it because I had never played a strategy game before. It really confused me ;_; That's what made me like DW2 more.

My goat.

I still probably like Warriors Orochi 3 the most just for the sheer scale of the playable roster, even if it's a bit outdated. Getting to play Ninja Gaiden characters in a Musou game is pretty much catnip for me too.

WO3 is one of my favorite games of all time. Really nice game.

I might revisit my idea to make a dynasty warriors guide for newbies.

No ps3 ;_; Are 1 and 2 worth playing? I never played them. Do they have a great soundtrack? I really like DW2 and 3. I liked Samurai Warriors, but replaying it recently, I feel there is so many events during a single battle that I am doing more of a "fetch quest" than fighting: ok go here, alright now go do this, alright now go here... And some of the events have such a tight timeline... Castle levels were kind of annoying as well. I like the game just fine, but had some gripes >_>

I admittedly haven't played much of WO 1 or 2, so I'm not sure.

Thanks for thinking about it for me <3

Oh! I missed @Yousef Have you played 1 and 2? Anyone else? Eh, maybe I'll just take the plunge. Thanks everyone!
Yes! I played all the musou games! The Orochi series is my favorite ❤️

I am a big fan of DW especially the spin offs.

Nice to see a bump. Cool, always great meeting another fan.

When there's trouble you call DW

The only DW game I've actually played for any amount of time before, was DW7 on PC. Really enjoyed it, liked the storytelling and music a lot, which were my friend's main recommendations for me getting into it. Lately, I've been itching to play another one properly, and I decided to try out the PS2 titles! I've been bouncing between DW4 and 5 the past couple of days, unsure of which one to focus on. I hear these two are pretty much the best ones of the classic era, but I like how DW4 handles telling the story of the Kingdoms a little bit better, while DW5 focuses more on the characters.

What do y'all think?
