Matt Dinniman's series is getting a tv show adaptation from the NBC streaming service Peacock. As of yet they're in early development. Seth McFarlane is attached along with Chris Yost. But no cast list has been announced yet, but it will be live action
Carl
Carl is a former coast guardsmen. He was at home after breaking up with his girlfriend. His cat got outside so he went outside into a blizzard in a leather jacket, heart boxers, and pink crocs several sizes too small. It was at that point the world ended and the dungeon opened. Carl is a normal guy caught in a crazy situation, with no pants and soon no shoes. He refuses to be broken or cowed by the dungeon and its cruelties. He fights monsters primarily with his bare hands & feet, and supplementally he uses various types of improvised explosives.
Personally I was thinking of a couple male actors. Alan Ritchson, Joel Kinnaman, Wyatt Russel. But then I realized a couple things. Carl is 27, all of these actors are a bit older than that. And they're also expensive, which in a show about aliens ending the world to make an RPG themed game show, would be a major problem. So you need a smaller actor, late twenties to early thirties, who can handle action and comedy. Problem is that I don't watch much TV so I'm drawing a blank.
Princess Donut
GC, BWR, NW Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk is a prize winning pure-bred Tortiseshell Persian cat. On the night that Carl broke up with his girlfriend, the cats rightful owner, Donut got herself stuck in a tree, as her "manservant" Carl went to get her the world ended and the dungeon opened. Shortly after entering the dungeon Donut was fed an "Enhanced Pet Biscuit" found in a special pet lootbox. Upon eating it, Donut gained sentience, speech, and incredible stats. She being the princess she is, is the de facto leader of the party
Donut will either be a CGI character or (admittedly less likely) a puppet. So realistically she could be voiced by anyone. In terms of actual voice actresses I could see Grey DeLisle, Jennifer Hale, or Laura Bailey doing a good turn as Donut. But TV like this tends to have more recognizable actors so you can put them on the poster, even if they can't voice act as well as a professional VA. Personally I could see Aubrey Plaza or Linda Cardellini in the role.
Mordecai
Mordecai was part of this hellish game once. Fighting the same monsters and delving similar dungeons, but he took a deal. He became an NPC for the game. He teaches Carl and Donut the basics of the game. A friendly face, but due to rules of the game he cannot tell the heroes everything. Later on he is closely tied to the players, which quickly becomes more than he bargained for.
Mordecai will either be a guy in a suit or CG character. For me the only choices are Brandon Keener or David Hayter. Someone with some grit in their voices, but not too growly.
But what are you thinking? Who should roam the halls of the dungeon in this TV show? I'm definitely interested in hearing everyone's opinions or ideas
